Mary L. Fitzsimmons of Sherman passed away Friday, April 6, 2012 at Texas Health Presbyterian-WNJ. She was 86 years of age. Funeral services will be held at Cedarlawn Chapel on the Hill in Sherman on Wed., April 11, 2012 at 11 a.m., Bro. James Crawford of Cornerstone Baptist Church will officiate. Visitation will be held from 7 -8 p.m. Tuesday at Dannel Funeral Home.|
Mrs. Fitzsimmons was born to George L. Wertz and Johnnie Mae (Sugg) Wertz on September 18, 1925 in Sherman. She attended Jefferson and Washington Elementary Schools and was a 1942 graduate of Sherman High School. After high school she attended Ivy Business College.
On September 1, 1943 she married Willard F. Fitzsimmons in Durant, Oklahoma.
Mary worked at Quaker Oats from 1952 until 1971 and then worked at the City of Sherman Tax Office from 1972 to 1987 where she became a Registered Texas Tax Collector in 1986.
Mrs. Fitzsimmons was preceded in death by her husband who died on June 22, 1984 and brother Paul Wertz in 2009.
She is survived by grandson, Joel M. Fitzsimmons of Sherman, Carol Fitzsimmons of Sherman; son, Joe Lynn Fitzsimmons and wife Martha of Sherman; nieces, Paula Gilmore of Washoe Valley, Nevada, Ann Wertz of Royce City, and Elaine Myers of Dallas.
