R.D. Nolen Obituary
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Johnson-Moore Pottsboro Chapel, 511 W. FM 120, Pottsboro with Bill Bell officiating.
R.D. was born on May 12, 1926 in Texarkana, Texas the son of Marcus Lloyd and Claudia Pearl Parker Nolen. He graduated from Denton High School in 1944 and then attended North Texas State University. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marine.
He married Joyce Elaine Green in 1951 and she preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 1981. He was an artistic craftsman and master knifemaker, as well as an avid reader of Louis L'Amour. He was a worldwide hunter and fisherman, traveling to many exotic places around the world. He and his brother, L.P., were founders of the Commemorative Air Force. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Knifemakers' Guild.
The family suggests memorials to Lloyd P. Nolen Research Center-payable to AAHM Endowment in memory of R.D. Nolen, C/O Commemorative Air Force, P.O. Box 62000, Midland, TX 79711-2000.
Surviving are his sons, Roger Nolen and his wife, Zeferina of Pottsboro and Steve Nolen and his wife, Shelly of Longmont, Colo.; brother, George Nolen of Pottsboro; sister, Mary Ann Bernardin and her husband, David of Pottsboro; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers, L.P. Nolen and Jimmy Nolen.

Uncle Doyle was one of my favorite people in the whole world. I will be sure to tell mary Ann (my grandmother and his sister) about all the kind things you have all said on here. thank you all.

The Nolen family - my sincere condolences for your loss - I remember Lloyd and Doyle as a kid (1950's) visiting Rebel Field with my father (Ken Medders, Sr.) and listening to the ole guys and the beginning of the Confederate Airforce -
