Richard Akers Obituary
Richard Don Akers was born on April 3, 1951 in Sherman, Texas and passed away on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013. Growing up in a military family allowed Richard to live in many different cities, but he spent his adult years in Dallas. He attended East Texas State University, where he was a member of the 1972 National Champion Football team. Richard previously worked in sales and marketing in the insurance industry. He enjoyed sports, cooking, music, and spending time with friends and family.

Richard is survived by his wife, Donna Rickert Akers; his son, Benny Akers of Yuma, Ariz.; his sister, Dana Butler of Cranston, R.I.; his brother, Randall Akers of Sherman; many nieces, nephews and an extended family of dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Richard's honor to the Baylor Healthcare Foundation Transplant Institute or the .

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4 at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 8011 Frankford Rd, Dallas, TX 75252; (972) 407-6070.
