Bob Chapin was born in Keene, New Hampshire February 28, 1934 and passed away March 1, 2014 in Denison, TX. Bob was the son of Arthur S. and Maude (Hollinghurst) Chapin.|
Bob graduated from Keene High School in 1952 and enlisted in the United States Air Force soon after graduation. Bob graduated from the University of Nevada at Reno with a BS in Chemistry in 1963. He was initially a chemist for Coors Distributing Company in Golden, Colorado and finished a long-term distinguished career with Thermo-Jarrell Ash Company in Massachusetts in 1998.
As a young man, Bob loved to ski. He was an extremely gifted wood worker for many years, creating furniture for their home, as well as gifts for charity, family and friends.
Bob is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mary Helen of the home, stepsons, Steve Shipp of Pottsboro, TX and David Shipp and wife, Lisa of Austin, TX, beloved grandsons, Alex, Austin and Ethan Shipp, sister-in-law, Lee Chapin, nieces and nephews, Sarah, Steve, John, Ann and Chris Chapin of New England, and brothers-in-law, John Kyle of Grand Prairie, TX, and Don Kyle and wife, Arlene of Texarkana, TX.
One of Bob's favorite poetic sayings was, "To see the world in a grain of sand, or heaven in a wild flower; hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour." If you knew Bob, then you have heard this.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made in Bob's name to: Lakeway UMC, PVES or Visions of Sugarplums.
A memorial service for Mr. Chapin will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Lakeway UMC in Pottsboro with Pastor Allen Snider officiating and Virgie Holbrook assisting. A lunch at the Church will follow the service.
