Wallace R. Young Jr., 71, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2013.|
He was born on March 9, 1941 to Wallace R. Young Sr. and Maud Holland Young of Sherman.
Wallace received his early education in Sherman, graduating as high school valedictorian from Fred Douglass High School. Wallace earned a bachelor's degree from Texas Southern University. He also served in the United States Air Force - living several years with his young family in Seville, Spain.
He began his work career at IBM, living in Greencastle, Ind.; later transferring to Austin. While living in Indiana, he received his Master's degree in Architectural drafting. Wallace retired from IBM after 27 years of service in 1996. After retiring from IBM, he enjoyed mentoring youth at the Creative Rapid Learning Center as well as job counseling at Huston-Tillotson University. Wallace always stressed the importance of higher education to all of those he encountered.
Wallace was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan but his true sports passion was the game of golf. He loved golf!
Wallace is preceded in death by his father, Wallace R. Young Sr.
Wallace is survived by his wife, Glenda, of 47 years; his children, Victoria Milhouse (Dun) and Victor Elan Young Sr. (Tenika); grandchildren, Victor Jr., Britani, Tyquisha and Dun Jr.; mother, Maud Young, 89; godchildren, Brandon and Brian Caldwell along with a host of specials nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A visitation was held on Thursday, March 7 and the Funeral Service was held on March 8 at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home in Austin, Texas. Mr. Young was buried at the Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
