POTTSBORO - Barbara Anne Dunkle, 79, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at her home in Pottsboro.|
Barbara Anne Lewis was born September 2, 1934 in Alhambara, Calif., the daughter of Isaac Earl and Ruth (Dixon) Lewis. Barbara married Jim Dunkle on June 14, 1952 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and they began their journey together raising a family. In 1983 Barbara and Jim moved to Pottsboro and in 1984 they opened "The Tackle Box" and provided countless anglers with all of the necessities to enjoy a day on Lake Texoma. Barbara loved to put smiles on the faces of children and started a petting zoo behind The Tackle Box to entertain the children that came into their store.
Jim and Barbara loved the Pottsboro community and they became very active in the Chamber of Commerce for many years. In 1995 their son took over their store, and Barbara and Jim focused their time and energy to help start the Marine Corps League in Pottsboro. They were heavily involved in the Toys for Tots drive and many other programs that continue to bless people in the Texoma area. Barbara and her husband have built a lasting legacy for this area and have touched countless lives over the years. Barbara will be deeply missed by her family, friends and everyone who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Dunkle is survived by her loving family, husband of 61 years Jim Dunkle; three sons, Steve Dunkle and wife Susan, Tony Dunkle and wife Penny, and Rory Dunkle; four grandchildren, Eric Dunkle, Jenna McCarthy and husband Michael, Charles Dunkle and Brian Dunkle; and four great-grandchildren, Jocelyn McCarthy, Mason McCarthy, Benjamin Dunkle and Zachary Dunkle. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Michael Lewis.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the Marine Corps League, 2355 FM 406, Denison, TX 75020. There is no set time for visitation.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made in Barbara's name to the Marine Corps League, 2355 FM 406 Denison, TX 75020.
