Beloved wife and mother, Wanda Coley, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital-WNJ in Sherman, TX from complications following surgery.|
Wanda was born May 9, 1930 in Petersburg, TX to Raymond and Sylvia Myers McGuire. The family later moved to Gordonville, TX, where she spent most of childhood. She completed school in Whitesboro, TX. At the age of 18, she met the man who was to be the love of her life at a café in Sherman, TX. She married Anthony Coley on February 26, 1949 at the Perrin Air Force Base Chapel. Tony's career in the military required that Wanda set up households in many different States, including Anchorage, Alaska, but they eventually ended up back in the place where it all began, Sherman, TX.
A devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wanda worked with the Women's Guild for many years, helping clean the church, polish the brass and even bringing linens home to wash and press. The time she spent with her friends doing these tasks was a great source of joy to her.
Wanda was an avid fan of all sports, but baseball was her true passion. Her favorite teams were the St. Louis Cardinals and the Texas Rangers. If either were on TV, she was watching.
A master baker, Wanda seldom went anywhere without taking homemade cookies, cake or some other decadent desert. Her molasses cookies were a Coley family staple.
Wanda is survived by her two sons, David M. Coley and wife Laurie of Slidell, LA and Stephen W. Coley and wife Christine of Plano, TX, daughter, Lorraine C. Hufford and husband David of Grand Prairie, TX, five grandchildren, Kimberly Thacker and husband Jimmy of San Diego, CA, Mark Coley of Slidell, LA, Nicholas Hufford of Grand Prairie, TX, Matthew Hufford of El Paso, TX, and Peter Coley of Slidell, LA.
