Edward Szczygiel (50) died at home Wednesday Feb 12, 2014 after a long illness. He was surrounded by the prayers of friends and family both near and far. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb 21 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sherman. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb 22 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Rev. Edward Traczyk will officiate, assisted by Rev. Antonio Aureus.
Eddie was born in Poland in 1963 to Franciszek and Marie Szczygiel. He received a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Cracow, Poland. In 1985 he married Margaret Szlachetka with whom he had a daughter, Dorota, and son Marek. He came to the United States with his family in 1992 and moved to Sherman to work as a Physical Therapist with Outreach Health Services, serving the North Texas and Texoma area. For the past two years he had been working with Renew Home Health in Sherman.
Eddie was a loving husband, friend, and neighbor. He was devoted to his patients and cherished by his relatives as the perfect son, son-in-law, and father. He loved the outdoors and all kinds of sports, especially tennis, sailing, skiing, hiking and traveling. When in his homeland, in the mountain regions of Poland, it was his particular love to hike the trails once walked by Blessed John Paul II.
Eddie leaves behind his wife and children, his parents, sister Krystyna, brother Marek, sister-in-law Alicja, nephew Bartek, brother, Andrzej and sister-in-law Bozena.
