Perry E. "Papaw" Morris Obituary
CELINA - Perry E. "Papaw" Morris went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday morning, March 27, 2014. He was surrounded by his wife, Verna Lee, and their children. He went from hearing his family sing into the loving arms of Jesus and joining in with his new heavenly choir of angels.

Perry was born on September 7, 1937 to L. L. and Ailene Bonham Morris in Antlers, OK. He graduated from Farmersville High School, Paris Jr. College, and received his BS degree from Austin College in 1960. He received his Masters of Education from East Texas State University. His career in education began in Leonard, Texas, as a football and baseball coach and high school principal. He then became Superintendent of Schools in Celina, Texas. He left his administration position to go back to his true love of coaching sports at Northwest ISD. He was a mentor to thousands of students in the classroom and on the field. He married the love of his life, Verna Lee Vier, on April 8, 1960, in Sherman, Texas. They would have been married 54 years in April. Perry was not quiet about his love for his wife, children and grandchildren, his Savior or his Celina Bobcats.

Perry is survived by his wife Verna Lee; his children and their spouses, Valerie and Steve Carey of Celina, Texas, Melanie and Ronnie Jackson of Celina, Texas, Lance and Karen Morris of Sugarland, Texas; his 9 grandchildren, Cindy Crowe and her husband Nelson, Brad Carey, Austin Carey, Meredith Cisco and her husband Cory, Zac Jackson, Seth Jackson, Connor Jackson, Collin McKinney, and Dylan Morris; brothers, Jack Morris and wife Jean, of Dallas, Texas, and Jerry Morris and wife, Janet, of Teague, Texas; sister-in-law, Julie Vier of Pottsboro, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.L. "Happy Jack" and Ailene Morris and his daughter, Cynthia Lee Morris.

Perry was a lifelong Baptist. He was a member of First Baptist Church Celina and an active member of the choir. Music was an important part of his and his family's lives. Visitation will be Friday, March 28 from 6-8 p.m. at FBC Celina.

The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29th at FBC Celina. FBC Celina is located at 841 North Preston Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the First Baptist Church Celina music program. You may sign the online guest book at www.scogginsfuneral home.com.
