SHERMAN - Funeral Mass for Mary Jo Gadek, age 71, of Sherman, Texas will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 5 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sherman. Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman.

Mary Jo passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at her residence in Sherman.

She was born on April 29, 1943 in Florence, South Carolina the daughter of Joseph and Evelyn Miller Brockhaus. Mary Jo was a wonderful, very caring and generous wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many.

She received her training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Ill. as a registered nurse and went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Ill. Later she received her Master's Degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Okla. and became a Licensed Professional Counselor. Mary Jo operated a private practice in family and child counseling.

Mary Jo was a teacher, a mentor, and a community volunteer. She loved traveling, fishing, gardening, flowers and most of all building personal relationships with people. Mary Jo was truly loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Frank E. Gadek of Sherman, son, Frank J. Gadek of Denison, Texas, daughter, Susan Cash of Allen, Texas, son, Brian S. Gadek and wife Jennifer of McKinney, Texas, five grandchildren, Tiama Baze and husband Chris, Matthew Lynn Gadek, Maddison Lea Gadek, Hannah Cash and Devan Gadek.

Mary Jo is also survived by her brother, Richard Brockhaus and wife Ann of Gaithersburg, Md., sister, Mary Ann Himmelman and husband Jack of Cincinnati, Ohio, three great grandchildren, Brandilynn, Bryson, and Brindyn Baze, several nephews, nieces and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Pat Brockhaus.

A rosary will be recited on Sunday, May 4th at 6 p.m. at the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Family night will be held on Sunday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. following the rosary.
