VAN ALSTYNE - Frank Ervin Dugger, age 83, of Van Alstyne, Texas, passed away June 9, 2014.|
He was born October 10, 1930, in Allen, Texas to Clarence Ervin Dugger and Ruby Ione (Fondren) Dugger. On June 27, 1952, he married Lee Delle Curtis in Allen, Texas.
Frank grew up in Allen, Texas, where he graduated from Allen High School in 1949. Upon graduation, he attended the New York Yankees tryout camp, signing a bonus contract with the Yankee organization. After ending his baseball career in 1954, Frank became a partner of R.D. DeRosier Company until eventually owning his own business and retiring to his farm in Van Alstyne in 1992.
After retiring, Frank loved to garden and share his garden with his neighbors, family and friends. Frank served as mayor of Allen from 1968 to 1978. He was Allen's Citizen of the Year in 1977. Frank was also elected into Allen High School's Athletic Hall of Honor in 2013.
He is survived by his wife, Lee Delle Dugger, of Van Alstyne, Texas; son Jeff Dugger, and wife Lisa Dugger of Van Alstyne, Texas; daughter Jan Dugger Connors, and husband Scott of Van Alstyne, Texas; daughter-in-law Pam Dugger of McKinney, Texas; granddaughter Dustin Allen of Van Alstyne, Texas; granddaughter Jessica Dugger of Little Elm, Texas; grandson Jake Dugger of Van Alstyne, Texas; granddaughter Jentry Mejia, and husband Justin of Van Alstyne, Texas; grandson Jonah Dugger of Van Alstyne, Texas; granddaughter Kirstie Connors of Van Alstyne, Texas; granddaughter Felicia Caraway, and husband Jimmy of McKinney, Texas; grandson Ryan West of Allen, Texas; great grandchildren Bailey and Alyssa Allen, Jaxton Mejia, Danielle Pruitt and Brooke West; brother Bill Dugger, and wife Pat of Sherman, Texas; sister Sarah Harris of Richardson, Texas; sister Shirley Carroll of Sherman, Texas, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Dugger; his parents, Clarence and Ruby Dugger; and his brother, Donald Ray Dugger.
Funeral services will be held at the Van Alstyne Cemetery Thursdayat 11 o'clock for a graveside service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne, Texas.
