Robert L. Straw Obituary
SHERMAN - Robert (Bob) L. Straw of Sherman, Texas, passed away June 13, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family after several years of fighting a blood disease and sarcoma cancer. He was born March 9, 1934 in Guthrie, Okla. to Lewis Straw and Ruth Winberry Straw. He graduated high school from Wapanucka, Okla. in 1952 and joined the Navy in 1953.

He proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Oriskany as an aircraft engineer & mechanic until 1957. He then served in the reserves until 1965. He married Joyce Wuensch in 1958 and raised three daughters until their divorce in 1970. In February 1984, he married Sue Reid and added two grown daughters to the family, but lost the love of his life in 2009 after 25 years of marriage.

Bob worked at John Mansville in Denison from 1958 to 1963. He then worked and retired from Johnson & Johnson in 1996. He and Sue were long time members of Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church in Sherman.

He is survived by a loving family of two sisters, Vivian Straw of Blanchard, Okla. and Nancy Bowerman and husband Larry of Coalgate, Okla., daughters, Deb Talley and fiancé John Belcher of Kemp, Okla., Terri Calhoun and husband Terry of Howe, Texas, Genni Burns of Lewisville, Texas, Sylvia Wynne and husband Wilson of Sherman, and Lisa Hill and husband Glenn of Midlothian, Texas, ten grandchildren, Misti Myers and significant other Jeremy Love, Shanda Ferguson and husband Steve, Amy Lamondue and husband Ernest, Phillip Hill, Casi Lea and husband Kris, Henry Hill and fiancé Julie Clark, Charlie Calhoun and wife Randa, Shae Defield, Bryce Burns and John Jacob Talley, 12 great grandchildren, Micah Stafford and wife Sarah, Lori Mendez and husband Josh , Jordan Henry, Averie Young, Fallon Ferguson, Lauren Ferguson, Taylor Lea, Joe Lea, Nick Lea, Kat Lea, Brock Hill, Jason Leal, Cash and Cainen Calhoun, five great-great grandchildren, Sunny and Daisey Mendez, Adison, Carter and Tatum Stafford.

He is also survived by his brother in law, Mirtis Hansard, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his loyal dog Skeeter. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife Sue.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Grand avenue Presbyterian Church at 901 N. Grand Street Sherman, TX 75090 or Home Hospice at 505 W. Center Street Sherman, TX 75090.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of WNJ Presbyterian, and Home Hospice for their loving support during a difficult journey.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church in Sherman. Pastor Lander Bethel will officiate and burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman.

Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Calhoun, Bryce Burns, John Jacob Talley, Phillip Hill, Henry Hill, Jordan Henry and Joe Lea.
