Thursday, September 4, 2014 we gather to celebrate the life of Rev. Janie Ann (Bullard) Ramsey, who left us early Saturday morning, August 30, 2014, after 66 short years. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother. She truly loved and lived for her family and was the rock to which each member was anchored. Janie touched many lives outside her family in her passion for ministry, introducing them, especially children, to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. |
Celebration service will be at Fusion Bible Church, 2515 West Lamberth Road in Sherman, at 1:30 p.m. Family visitation will be 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the church preceding the service with Rev. Dennis Henderson officiating. Private family burial will follow at Restland Cemetery.
Janie graduated from Bennington, Okla., High School in 1966, and received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant, Okla., in 1970. She received her Masters of Ministry in 1997 from Southern Nazarene University.
Janie married her husband, David Ramsey, April 3, 1971. After living in California for the summer months following Dave's college graduation, they moved to Texas where David opened a printing business in 1972. Those were years of struggle for the young couple, yet thru it all, Janie remained Dave's steadfast pillar of support. Now, after forty years of growing Dave the Printer into a successful business in Dallas, son, Matt, is continuing the work his parents began.
Beginning her working career as a teacher (like her father), Janie taught first grade at Robert E. Lee Elementary School in Durant, Okla. After moving to Texas, she taught second grade at John R. Goode Elementary School in Irving, Texas for a year or two before leaving teaching to join Dave in his printing business as his chief financial officer.
She and Dave began attending Faith Nazarene Church in Irving, Texas, and she eventually became director of the children's department. Her responsibilities included directing children's Sunday School, leading in children's church and Vacation Bible School and developing a visitation ministry, reaching out to families with children in the area surrounding the church. Part of the outgrowth of that visitation ministry was the planting of a Spanish church, which used the Faith church facilities for grounding their ministry to the growing Spanish- speaking community. She served at Faith church until the mid-1980's when she felt lead to leave her ministry there to serve at the Richardson Nazarene Church.
While serving at Richardson, she began her studies for her Masters in Ministry degree. Before completing her course of study, she received a call from College Nazarene Church, Nampa, Idaho, to serve as their children's Pastor. Accepting that call, she and her family moved to Nampa, Idaho in 1995. In 1999, Janie was ordained an elder in the Church of the Nazarene. After her ordination, people would often ask Dave what it was like being married to a lady preacher. He always responded by saying, "She's been preaching to me all our life together. Now she just has a piece of paper giving her license to do it, so nothing has changed."
Since returning to Texas in 2001, Janie has served in various capacities of ministry in the Bible Churches of Sherman, leading small groups and working part time as a chaplain at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman.
Janie is survived by her mother, June Devereaux, husband, David Ramsey, son, Matthew Ramsey and wife Holly, son, Joshua Ramsey and wife Halcyon, adopted daughter, Nancy Worth and husband Brad, brother, John Bullard and wife Tracey, brother, Jerry Bullard and wife Clair, sister, Pam Rich and husband Charles, brother, Chuck Devereaux and wife Jan. She has six (6) grandchildren Bree, Taylor, Hayvin, Jaxton, Jacob and Ethan.
Her father, Beovia (Happy) Bullard, stepfather, Merle Devereaux and brother, Joe Bullard, preceded her in death.
Pallbearers are Clint Bullard, Drew Bullard, Jason Bullard, Chad Bullard, Blake Bullard, Tommy Bolger (husband of Jessica Bullard Bolger), Clayton Ripley (husband of Jennifer Bullard Ripley).
Floral remembrances can be sent to Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard St, Denison, Texas 75020.
If you prefer to share Janie's vision in ministry, donations can be made to Iglesia del Nazareth Marnata, Irving, TX or Fusion Bible Church Children's Ministry, Sherman, TX. Checks made payable to either ministry can be sent to Joshua Ramsey, 1006 Barkridge, McKinney, Texas 75069. Joshua will deliver your donation to the appropriate ministry.
Above all else, Janie would want everyone to know that Jesus is The Way, The Truth and The Light. She would want you to believe in the great power of salvation thru Jesus Christ, His death and His resurrection. Anyone can experience freedom in Christ thru one simple prayer – "Jesus, come into my heart, forgive me of my sins and save me."
