Coy Stanphill Obituary

DENISON - Edgar Coy Stanphill of Denison passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 5, 2010. Mr. Stanphill, a native of Jacksonville, Ark., was born Oct. 25, 1925 in Little Rock, Ark. A graduate of the University of Arkansas in Electrical Engineering, he began his professional career in 1950 with Arkansas Power & Light Company. In 1955 he relocated to Denison and began his career with Texas Power & Light Company in Sherman. He worked in various capacities with TP&L more than 32 years, retiring in 1987 as vice president-administration, at which time he returned to Denison.
Both during his years as TP&L district manager in Denison and in his retirement, Mr. Stanphill was very active civically, serving in the following roles: twice chairman of the board of Denison Chamber of Commerce, president of United Way, chairman of Denison District Boy Scouts of America, president of Denison Rotary, Texoma Medical Center Board of Directors and Fairview Cemetery Board of Directors.
Mr. Stanphill gave honorable service to his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, being discharged in 1946.
On Aug. 5, 1945, Coy married his high school sweetheart, the former Pate McClure. They enjoyed a joyous marriage of 64 years and were blessed with three children, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Mrs. Pate Stanphill of the home; daughter Vicki Washburn and her husband Richard of Denison; son Lyle Stanphill and his wife Vicki of Livingston; son Larry and his wife Carolyn of Yukon, Okla.; granddaughter Rebecca McCoy and her husband Zach of Austin; grandsons Lee Stanphill and wife Kimberly of Greenville, Stephen Stanphill and wife Bunny of Stillwater, Okla., Clay Stanphill of Stillwater, Russell Stanphill and wife Susan of Humboldt, Tenn., Danny Stanphill and wife Brittni of Celina, Matt Washburn and wife Dava of Comanche, Adam Washburn of Denison, Ben Washburn and his fiancee Kristen Patterson; and four great grandsons, Peyton and Carder Washburn of Comanche, Coy Stanphill of Celina and Harry Stanphill of Stillwater.
Coy will be greatly missed by his large and loving family and by his many good friends. His services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Waples Methodist Church in Denison. His eight grandsons will serve as pallbearers. His morning coffee buddies will serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Denison. Family visitation will be observed from 7 -8 p.m. Thursday at Bratcher Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made in Coy's name to Waples United Methodist Church, Denison.
