SAVOY, Texas - U.S. Army Sergeant First Class (retired) William "Bill" Teague passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Texas Health Presbyterian- WNJ surrounded by his loving family.|
He was born December 29, 1940, in Denison, TX, to Trumon Ray and Hester Erwin Teague. He married Gloria Jean Moore on November 25, 1960, in Sherman, TX. Bill attended Denison schools and worked for the Coca-Cola Company in Sherman. He entered the Army National Guard in 1958 and was called to active duty in 1961 during the Cuban Missile Crisis where he served as President John F. Kennedy's communication specialist. In 1969, he served his country in the Vietnam Conflict.
During his 23 years in the U.S. Army, he served in many countries as well as in many states before retiring in 1981. One of the highlights of his military career was his four-year stint as a drill instructor.
After retirement from the Army, Bill worked for the First National Bank of Bells/Savoy, the Savoy I.S.D., and eventually retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Denison. Since retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his large family and supporting the Denison Yellow Jacket football teams. He recently served as the Chaplin for the American Legion Post 283 in Bonham.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at the Mullican-Little Funeral Chapel in Bells. Dr. Chet Haney of Parkside Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be at Sunnyside Cemetery in Savoy immediately following.
Bill is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gloria Jean Teague; son Billy Teague, Sr., and wife Laurie of Sherman; daughter Cathy Daniel of Sherman and son-in-law David Daniel of Sherman; grandchildren Billy Teague, Jr., and wife Kimberly of Denison, Kristy Fortune and husband J.R. of Bonham, Phillip Daniel, Josh and Mandy Teague, all of Sherman; great-granddaughter Haylee Teague of Denison; brothers Truman Teague of Denison, and James "Jim" Teague and wife Sharon of Aberdeen, Maryland; sister Mary "Sis" Bryan and husband Dave of Oklahoma City; sister-in-law Pat Craft Hooks and husband Maxey of Greenville; close family friends Pam Curry, Erin Boling, and "Momma" Mae Eddings, all of Denison; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his parent-in-laws, P.D. and Ruth Moore of Savoy, brothers Charles, Richard, and David "Bud" Teague, all of Denison
Pallbearers will be grandsons Billy Teague, Jr., J.R. Fortune, Phillip Daniel, and Josh Teague, nephew Clayton Craft, and special friend Eddie Wayne Burris.
The family would like to thank the First Baptist Church of Savoy, American Best Care Hospice, Vicki Harris, R.N., Northeast Home Health of Bonham, Drs. Sharon Malone, Nathan Watson, David Reynolds, WNJ MICU staff, and the physicians and staff of Texas Oncology- Sherman.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Mullican-Little Funeral Home.
