DURANT, Okla. - Charles George Hines a resident of Durant, Okla., passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the age of 83 years 5 months and 25 days. He was born to John Henry and Bessie Pearl (Ervin) Hines in Anadarko, Okla. on Friday, Jan. 17, 1930. Charles married Gladys Slusher in Charleston, Ark. on Feb. 14, 1953.

Charles served his country and community in the United States Army. He was a cook, Military Police, Infantry, Drill Sergeant, Honor Guard in Korea and a Supply Sergeant. Charles was deployed to Korea, Vietnam, where he received a Purple Heart, Germany and Columbia. He received the Combat Infantry Badge in Korea and Vietnam. Charles was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans in Durant, and a everyday volunteer at the Patchwork Angels Adult Care Center in Durant. His whole life revolved around his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hines is survived by his daughter, Becky Nolte and husband Bill of Austin; sons, Bill Hines and wife Brenda of Bells, Joe Hines and wife Laura of Pottsboro, and David Hines and wife Trish of Sherman; brothers-in-law, Rodger Dale Slusher and wife Dorothy of Daisetta, Bobby Slusher and wife Carolyn of Tehachipi, Calif., and William Slusher of Las Vegas, Nev.; 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hines was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Pearl Hines; wife, Glady's Evelyn Hines.
Family Hour will be from 7 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home in Durant. A Graveside Service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the Rosewood Cemetery in Achille with Mother Nancy Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Cemetery Achille, Okla.
