SHERMAN – Patricia Louise Bowers, 72, passed away at the Willows on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013.|
Pat was born Dec. 29, 1940 at home in Olney, Okla. She was the seventh of eight children born to Velma and Amos Cunningham. She met her husband, Richard Bowers during his time in the military. They eventually moved to Richardson and then Allen. God provided a wonderful community of friends and Christ followers for them. They raised their son and daughter there among lovely people.
After the tragic loss of Pat's husband, Dick, and son Ben, she moved to Sherman. Pat lived across the street from her daughter Tawni, for almost 20 years. Her grandsons, Zach, Sawyer and Jesse were the delight of her life. She loved spending time with her friends playing bridge, going to church and loving on her dogs. She talked to her sister, Wanda Cunningham every week about their love and the faithfulness of Christ.
She was always a source of encouragement and warmth to those around her – from her family, to those she worked with at the courthouse. Her kindness never failed as she struggled with Alzheimer's. She was still finding people to love even when she moved into assisted living. The Willows excellent care and loving staff gave her and her family much comfort in her final months and days.
She was a real "lady" who genuinely cared for everyone God placed in her path.
In addition to her husband and son, Pat's parents and four of her five brothers preceded her in death. Her sisters Wanda Cunningham, Cleta and LeRoy Dew,; and brother, Jerry and Patty Cunningham survive her. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tawni and Brad Hodge of Sherman; and her precious grandsons, Zach (25) and wife Katherine, Sawyer (21), and Jesse (20).
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Allen Cemetery in Allen.
Services are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.
