WINNSBORO — Miss Nora Norman of Winnsboro passed away on December 30, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Bethel ARP Church in Winnsboro with private burial. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the Church Fellowship Hall and at other times at the home of Jeannette N. Starnes in Great Falls.
Born in Winnsboro, Miss Norman was the daughter of the late Charlie and Hydesgia Norman. She was a member of Bethel Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Winnsboro and also attended The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter in Charlotte, N.C. She was loyal and very devoted to her family.
She was retired from JA Jones Construction Company. While with JA Jones and Metric Construction she traveled extensively and lived in various states in the southeast.
Nora was a graduate of Mt. Zion Institute in Winnsboro and Winthrop College and also attended Queens College. She was a member of the National Association of Women in Construction and Charlotte Mecklenburg Republican Women. She was an active volunteer with the Opera Guild of Charlotte and the Charlotte Heart Ball. She also volunteered with the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and with the Wachovia/Wells Fargo Golf Championship.
Nora was an active volunteer with many local and state campaigns. She worked on Governor McCrory's first campaign as mayor of Charlotte and followed him through his various campaigns to the NC Governor's mansion. She was worked on various campaigns for Sue Myrick.
Miss Norman is survived by her sisters Jeanette N. Starnes and brother-in-law H.C. Starnes of Great Falls and Jerri N. Long of Rock Hill, three nephews; George Kemp, Lee Kemp (Melissa) of Lexington, Kent. and Hank Starnes (Tammy) of Great Falls; and one niece Cindy Davis (Eric) of Greenville; four great-nephews, Stephen Kemp, Parker Kemp, Hudson Kemp and Clayton Starnes, and one great-niece; Elizabeth Davis.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by one sister, Hamdy N. Kemp.
