WINNSBORO — Funeral services for Walter Bruce Baker, Sr., age 71, will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at the First Baptist Church, 1373 Newberry Rd., Winnsboro, with burial in First Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2013 at Pope Funeral Home, 521 S. Congress St. Winnsboro.
Born in Lancaster, Mr. Baker was the son of Lois Dyson Lamb and the late Gayford D. Baker. Along with being a devoted father, grandfather, and husband, Mr. Baker was very active in the local Jaycees, serving as past president, and he was awarded Jaycee of the year. He also spent many hours giving his time and talents to Richard Winn Academy where he served three terms on the board.
Along with his loving wife, Sandra Shull Baker, Mr. Baker is survived by son, Walter Bruce Baker, Jr. (Carrie) of Winnsboro; two daughters, Pattie Baker Edwards (Robert) of Chambersburg, Pa. and Kelly Baker Brown (Roderick) of Winnsboro; five grandchildren, Zach Edwards, B Baker, RJ Brown, Brinson Baker, and Kate Baker. Mr. Baker's love and support reached beyond his immediate family to include his extended grandchildren, Matthew Wilkes, Jeni-Bruce Wilkes Teeters, Adrian Wilkes, Thomas Wilkes, and DJ Gibson. Mr. Baker is preceded in death by three brothers, Ted, Donnie and Danny Baker.
