Vannice, Luther (Les)
Luther (Les) Vannice, Jr. passed away at the age of 90 on July 24, 2015. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Barbara J. Rulien Vannice; mother, Mary Alice Fly Vannice and father, Luther L. Vannice, Sr. He is survived by two sons, James and Vincent, and daughter, Edith Pelerine; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Les was born in Dayton, Wash. and raised in Walla Walla, Wash. He attended the University of Washington where he met his lovely wife, Barbara. Thus began the beautiful adventure of their life together. After graduating from the UW, Les had a long career as an engineer. This afforded them the opportunity to live in many places in this great country and raise a family. They remained avid Husky fans throughout their 62 year marriage. Les was a World War II Army veteran. Upon retirement, he volunteered for IESC (International Executive Service Core) where he shared his vast knowledge of the industrial canning process with the people of El Salvador, Peru and the Dominican Republic. They also traveled and explored some wonderful and exotic places during their golden years together. Les' many interests included family, church, woodworking, and the violin. Les will be dearly missed by all who loved him. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, August 3, 2015 at 2:00 at the Evergreen Funeral Home.
