Gertrude Cornelia (VanDyke) DeGroot

Gertrude Cornelia (Van Dyke) DeGroot was born in Chandler, Minnesota on December 26, 1914 and passed on May 1, 2014. At an early age the family moved to the Everett area where she met and married Harry DeGroot on August 30, 1935. She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Everett where she was active her entire life. She was devoted to her family and made afghans for all her children and grandchildren. She loved music, gardening and reading. Gertrude is survived by her four children, Esther (Court) Rylaarsdam, John (Jacie) DeGroot, Art (Adria) DeGroot, and Janet (Harvey) Jubie; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Dick (Eleanor) Van Dyke; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, September 6, 1990; brothers, Jacob Van Dyke and John Van Dyke; sisters, Johanna Vander Sys, Cora Munneke, and Nellie Medema. Services will be held Friday, May 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. First Christian Reformed Church 1415 McDougall, Everett, WA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Everett Christian School.
