Hillewy H. Carpenter
Hillewy Helena Nordin was born in Chicago in 1925 to her Swedish immigrant parents, Jonas Gustaf and Wendela Helen Nordin. She and her younger brother, Harold, grew up in Glenview, Illinois and Hillewy earned her degree at the University of Illinois
After a brief teaching career, Hillewy joined the Navy where she attained the rank of Lieutenant JG. During her time in the Navy, she met Lee Carpenter and they were married on August 4, 1953. Lee and Hillewy had two children, Mark and Leslie, and in 1964, Lee retired from the Navy and the family moved to Lake Goodwin in Washington State. Lee and Hillewy built their house together and once the children were in middle school, Hillewy went back to work as a teacher for the Everett School District. She spent the next twenty two years teaching and counseling children in middle school. During this time Hillewy also attended the University of Washington
, where she earned her Master's Degree in Educational Psychology. Hillewy retired from teaching when she was sixty five and she and Lee spent the next twenty years traveling and enjoying the life they created for themselves.
When Lee passed away in March of 2012, Hillewy never quite recovered and, after several illnesses, she passed away from medical complications on January 23, 2013.
At her request, there will be no funeral or memorial services.
