Jacob Daniel Detloff, 32, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on November 17, 2012. He was born in Bellingham, Washington on January 16, 1980.
Jacob graduated from Monroe High School in 1998, where he played tennis and soccer. A 2003 UNLV graduate, Jake earned his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, and earned a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. Jake enjoyed eight enriching years working in the Clark County School District, where his contributions will be memorialized with an annual student award for achievement in reading, "Mr. Detloff's AR Reading Stars Award".
Jake is survived by his beloved wife, Lindsay Detloff; parents, Dan and Liz Detloff; sisters, Sara (Dan) Wells and Meggie (Jeremy) Kotthoff; god-sister, Emily McCord; grandparents, Evelyn McKale-Ranous and Jim and Jan Larkin; and an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and 32 Ruby Thomas 4th graders.
Jake had a bright outlook on life and radiated a sweet spirited sense of humor. His personality captured those around him, creating smiles, laughter and devotional friendship. He touched many lives and cherished time spent with loved ones. Jake will be missed by many, and remembered for his generosity, enthusiasm, and dedication to family, friends, and colleagues. His life was filled with adventure, accomplishments and love.
Jake's shining spirit will carry on with us forever. Yes, his time here was short, but his life mattered greatly.
A celebration of life will be held at Maltby Christian Assembly, 9322 Paradise Lake Road, Snohomish, Washington, Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 1 p.m.
Donations can be made in Jake Detloff's name to the Sky Valley Food Bank, www.svfoodbank.org, where for many years he was Santa at the Santa's workshop for kids during the holiday season.
