James Leland Drake
James Drake, 72, of Everett passed away on May 11, 2013 with his two sons, Jim and Kim, at his side. Jim was born in Boise, ID, the youngest of nine kids. He lived in California as a teen before settling down in Washington in 1966, calling Everett home since 1970.
Jim was proud to have served in the Marine Corp. from '59 to '63 and was honorably discharged in 1965 as a corporal. He began his career as an attack helicopter mechanic in Vietnam and later became an airframe and powerplant mechanic on the flight line for Boeing, where he worked for over 20 years, retiring in 1998. In retirement, Jim enjoyed playing golf and pool, spending time with his longtime partner Moira, and always protecting the people he loved. Somehow, he managed to never don a pair of pants again, wearing only golf shirts, shorts and sandals (with socks!). He was an active member of the Fleet Reserve Association #170 where he served on the Board of Directors.
Jim is survived by his sons, Jim and Kim; his brother, Bob (Darlene) of Indiana; his sister-in-law,
Carol of Oregon; and two grandkids, Kimball and Alexzen.
A gathering to celebrate Jim's life will be held at his son Jim's home on Sunday, June 2, 2013 from 2-5 p.m.
