Jean Spencer, 89, died peacefully at her home in Everett on May 9, 2013.
A native of Prosser, WA, Jean came to Everett in 1947 with a degree in nursing from the University of Washington
, and a husband, Dr. Bob A. Spencer, from Texas, whom she had met at King County Hospital. Jean was a volunteer nurse with the American Red Cross and local civic organizations for many years and retained an interest in nursing throughout her life. She was active in the Everett and Mukilteo Way Garden Clubs, Everett Literary Guild, and local chapters of AAUW, AFS and PEO.
Jean and Bob moved in 1954, from a little house on Hoyt Avenue in Everett, to a rural property on Mukilteo Boulevard that would become their home until their respective deaths. During that time, she and Bob raised their two daughters, Janet and Susan, on what began as a wooded "gentleman's farm" and evolved to a park-like parcel with grand old rhododendrons, azaleas, lilacs and hawthorn trees that stand in full bloom today -- as if in tribute to the arc of their lives.
Jean was preceded in death in 2009 by Bob, her husband of 62 years.
She is survived by her two daughters, Janet Wallace and Susan Spencer; her cousin, Kirk Bardwell; and a bevy of nieces, nephews and their kin.
Jean had a full and fortunate life and will be remembered for her generosity, kindness and joie de vivre. Friends and family wishing to honor Jean's memory, or Jean's and Bob's together, are asked to consider a donation to a
