Rex R. Rollins
Rex Rollins of Marysville, California passed away at the California Veterans Home in Yountville, CA on May 14, 2013 with his family at his bedside at the age of 88.
Rex was born in Castle Gate, Utah on June 16,1924. He moved to Chico in 1927; then to Marysville in 1951. He was the owner/operator of the Palm Drug Store for 23 years in Marysville, California. He also worked at Anderson's in Sacramento, Pay n Save in Marysville, Walgreens in Yuba City as well as the California Veterans Home in Yountville until he retired. Rex enjoyed working at the pharmacy, hunting, fishing, traveling and being outdoors.
He attended grammar and high school in Chico, as well as California State University at Chico. He enlisted in the US Navy
in January of 1943. He was detached to the Marine 2nd Division Pacific Fleet. He was honorably discharged from the Marines as Pharmacists Mate 1/C serving with Fleet Marine Force in South Pacific in World War II
. After the war, he went to the University of California at Berkeley where he received his Pharmacy license in 1947.
He is a life member of the 2nd Marine Division Association, life member of Marine Memorial Association, member of American Legion, member of National Association of Atomic Veterans Forward Echelon Occupying Troops in Nagasaki, Japan, one of the first corpman on land after the 2nd atomic bomb in 1945. He was the recipient of the Presidential Unit Citation in World War II.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marysville, Knights of Columbus Council #69 as well as past Grand Knight and Honorary Member. He was a life member CSU Chico Alumni Association and UC Berkeley Alumni Association. He was a member of American Pharmaceutical Association since 1947 and a member of California Pharmacists Association since 1949. He was a licensed pharmacist in California and Nevada since 1949. He was president and member of Iota Sigma Fraternity at CSU Chico. He was a member of Phi Delta Chi Fraternity at UC San Francisco, and UC San Francisco Pharmacy Alumni Association. He was a member of Kings Debtors, Christ the King Retreat House. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the American Association of Retired Persons. He was also a former member of the 20/30 Club and the Marysville Rotary Club
Survivors include two sisters, Iona Reynolds of Oakland, CA and Viola Gray of Chico, CA; and his twelve children, Cathy Jensen, Christine and Allen Catlett, Ed Rollins, and Rita and Sonny Calhau of Sutter, Ron and Nikki Rollins Jr., Jeannette and Mike Burke, Theresa and Alan Finley, and Bill and Margie Rollins of Marysville, Jim Rollins of Yuba City, CA, Genevieve Sciabica of Modesto, CA, Dr. John and Beth Rollins of Saratoga, CA, Tom Rollins of Redmond, Washington. Rex is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orson Hyde and Arley Ione Rollins; wife, Catherine M. Sauer Rollins; sisters, Verzilla Albees, Eliza Joanne Proudfit, and Vera Lees; brothers, Leif, Iris, Orson and Joe Rollins; son-in-law, Robert Earl Jensen; and grandchildren, Erin Marie Rollins and Robert Earl Jensen II.
