Wally Deeter, treasured and beloved by his family, was lost to cancer on February 28, 2014. Wally is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Mandie; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Mixie; daughter, Sylvia; nephew, Gary; the joy of his life: grandchildren, John, Sara, and Anna; two nieces, several cousins and many good friends. Born on October 31, 1928, Wally grew up in Oso, WA and graduated from Arlington High School in 1947. He joined the US Navy
and served his country for 20 years. He served on three different destroyers and had shore duty in California and Japan as well as serving as a radio operator during the Korean War
. Upon retiring from the Navy in 1968, Wally and his family moved back to Washington State, where Wally worked for Safeway for 20 years. In 1993 Wally and Mandie moved to Camano Island, where they enjoyed living for 20 years. Then, due to his health, they moved to Arlington to be near family. During retirement Wally enjoyed traveling with Mandie in their RV, golfing, bowling, fishing, and crabbing, as well as keeping his yard in shape. Time with his grandchildren was always a first priority for Wally, and he took them along on RV trips, taught them to fish and to golf. He was always helping others whenever assistance was needed. He had a good sense of humor and brought smiles and laughter with jokes and pranks. In the wintertime, Wally and Mandie would travel to Lake Havasu City, Arizona as snowbirds. Wally was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He will be sorely missed but will live on in the hearts of us all. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Wally's life on March 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Camano Lutheran Church. The church is located at 850 Heichel Road, Camano Island, WA 98282. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the
to honor Wally.
