Marcella Kern Obituary

Marcella Louise Kern

Marcella L. Kern of Monroe, WA passed away peacefully on May 14, 2011. Marcy was born on March 12, 1930 in Monroe, WA where she lived her whole life.
She was a wonderful sister, aunt, gramma and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.
At 19 years of age, Marcy contracted polio which left her wheelchair bound for the rest of her life. Some people may have given up, but not Marcy! She went on to become City Clerk of Monroe, an office she held until her retirement. Everyone who knew Marcy was taken by her smiling sunny outlook. She had a great sense of humor and love of music. Marcy loved to travel.
Marcy was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her brothers, Duane and Delton; and sisters, Doris and Joyce.
She is survived by sisters, Ethlynn and Letta Mae; and brother, Calvin.
A funeral mass was celebrated on May 24, 2011.
A torn and faded paper was found in her purse. In Marcy's elegant handwriting were the lyrics to Nat King Cole's "Smile."
Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile.
