Bill Bailey Obituary

Bill Ray Bailey

Bill left this world of pain to be with his loving God, mother, father and brother, Evan Howell, on Sunday morning, January 30, 2011, peacefully in his sleep.
He was born to Alma (Green) and Clarence Bailey in Big Springs, Texas, February 23, 1945. The family moved to Everett that same year. He graduated Everett High in 1963.
Bill was married to Mary, with whom he had three sons, Michael, Gary and David.
Having several career options he chose to work for the City of Everett's Public Works, in the Street division. Starting as a truck driver, he moved to heavy equipment, then quickly to Supervisor for the last 25 of his 42 years there. He retired October 31, 2010.
He married Dianne in 1974, helping to raise three more sons, Billy, Art and Gary Cooper.
One great love for Bill was salmon fishing. He was one of four main promoters of the Annual Everett Salmon Derby in the 80's and 90's, which the City of Everett merchants sponsored. He spent many hours enjoying just the motion of the boat on the water.
He was on the Board of directors for Marvel Industries for eight years, which gave assistance and jobs to disabled adults in the wood working industry.
Bill also had a love for camping in the great outdoors. He felt the need for family security, so he and Dianne joined and have been members of the Pilaguamish Community Club since 1991. Once there, he joined the Park Board. The president saw a need and requested Bill to volunteer time to supervise the maintenance of the park. He did so for the past 16 years.
Bill was a big man with a heart to match. The job he did best was to supervise, whether it was his crew at the city, or the rangers at Pilly, or his sons at home and grown, all learned from his knowledge.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Dianne; their six sons; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves his best friend, John Moen; and friends, Larry, Sonny and Gordy; plus many others.
A special thanks for the caring doctors assisting Bill for many years at WWMG and the CCU at Providence Colby Campus.
Services will be held this Friday, February 4, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 2617 Cedar Ave., Everett. Rosary will be held at 6 p.m. prior to the Mass at 6:30 p.m. The celebration of Bill Bailey's life will be in the adjoining hall directly afterwards. Cremation is through Purdy & Walters w/ Cassidy. Arrangements are in the care of Purdy & Walters w/ Cassidy.

Dianne and Family..
My heart is broke to lose a friend like Bill...he was the best..his humor his kindness and what I loved most about Bill is how much he loved you....I`m going to miss my phone calls that were always funny and pleasant..And his smile...and what I will remember is the smile he would give me when I called him Billybob...Dianne spoiled Bill and Bill spoiled Dianne....they were the best of teams...Shortly before his passing at the Casino he would play his favorite slots and I would go over and sit with him and we would laugh and talk about just about anything...once in a while a few cuss words came out...mostly from me rooting for him to win the Jackpot and Bill throwing in a few himself..but we laughed ...He said to me that he was happy that Dianne and I were good good friends and that I was to watch over her if anything happened ...that made a lump in my throat but I assured him she will be my dear friend forever..Bill thanked me for that...I told him everyone loves Dianne and that will keep her safe....
I love you Bill as a dear friend and I will miss you greatly..You up above will be in my heart until we meet at the ole Casino again up there...
Love you my friend

Dianne,I will always remember Bill as a hard working, kind hearted neighbor. I will miss hearing him say "I love you" to you or one of the kids as he headed down the steps of your house. Then he would always give a little tap on the horn of his truck as he pulled out of the driveway on his way to work, or to go fishing. Melissa and I want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Bill has touched the lives of so many as he did mine. I will never forget his help, humor and dedication to service in the City of Everett.

Dear Dianne & The Boys,

I just heard of Bill's passing from my Dad today. I was stunned and saddened. I have so many great and funny childhood memories of Bill and of countless summer night and Holiday bonfires at your house. Simply saying "I'm sorry for your loss" seems so inadequate and insignificant, but I am. Please know that all of you are in my thoughts at this difficult time. Thank you for the memories Bill...

Love,
Angie Pollock

Bill was certainly an icon in his time. He was a wonderful friend in my life for nearly 30 years. The memories of both our families having back yard BBQs, camping trips, renting the lava rock house on Oahu, the All City Fishing Derby every year, walking to candle light service on Christmas Eve, all wonderful memories. I will never forget my tall soft spoken friend.
All my love and prayers to Dianne and their sons.
Forever your friend, Diana (Hathaway) DeMarie

My condolences to Bill's wife (Dianne) and family! Bill and I were good friends as kid's (Bill was about 5 and I was 6) when we met, and I knew Bill and his mother Alma very well and my family did also. We all were very good friends. After high school Bill and I lost contact with each other and I feel I am fortunate to have met with Bill to talk for a few minutes outside his home about three weeks before he retired. Bill said his wife Dianne was still at work and I told him perhaps another time I could meet her. Bill mentioned to me he had some health issues and I could sense he was extremely concerned about his health when we spoke. Dianne, I feel so fortunate that I got to see Bill this one last time before Bill went to be with the Lord! May the Lord give comfort to you and all your family!
