Erva Soderman Obituary

Erva Lea McCorkle Soderman

Erva Lea was born August 2, 1932 to Mancil and Thelma Baxter in Toledo, WA. She passed away peacefully on April 17, 2011 at the age of 78, surrounded by family in Edmonds, WA.
Erva Lea married George McCorkle while George was home on leave from the Air Force on December 24, 1951 and had three sons, Greg, Dave and Mike.
In 1967, after moving several times up and down western Oregon, the family settled in Everett, WA. Erva Lea quickly made many lifelong friends from her involvement with the local Welcome Wagon, playing bridge and pinochle, and entertaining/ feeding her boys and their friends. In 1972, she discovered her voice after joining Sweet Adelines womens choir where she made many more friends. One of her best memories was the trip the choir made to Australia which she talked about often.
Several years after George passed away in 1981, she met Dick Soderman and the two married soon afterward. After she retired from Social Security as a Claims Administrator, she and Dick moved from Everett to a golf course community ouside of Mattawa called Desert Aire. There they continued to enjoy life playing golf and entertaining family and friends on their back porch. After Dick's death in 2010, she moved back to western Washington to be close to her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Janet Ogden; first husband, George McCorkle; and second husband, Richard Soderman.
She is survived by her children, Greg McCorkle, Dave (Phyllis) McCorkle, Mike (Dawn) McCorkle, Cindy (Kim) Brazell, and Kristy (Mike) Spencer; grandchildren, Chris McCorkle, Allison McCorkle, Spencer McCorkle, Nicholas Brazell, Christian Spencer, Ryan Spencer and Katie Spencer; and great-grandson, Aaron Murphy Miller.

We always thought it
was a bear but it turned out to be you, Mom!

We are thinking of you at this sad time. The loss of someone near and dear is hardest on those they leave behind.

For many years, a group of us from Sweet Adelines (dubbing ourselves, The Iron Maidens! )would go off for a three day weekend to a chosen spot, most recently in Leavenworth, and have the best time entertaining ourselves...games,puzzles,walks, cooking, laughing and NO TV watching!! Erva Lea was always the first one to "hit the deck" and have coffee waiting for the rest of us. And, tiny Erva Lea was the bravest of us all to go after a mouse or two if they happened to encroach on our fun! We shall all miss her greatly...a kind and dear friend. My sympathies to her family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort. I have very fond memories of the years I worked with Erva Lea at the Lynnwood Social Security Office. I even helped sew some of her Sweet Adeline costumes. I loved to hear her whistling. I am very sad for your loss.

Please accept my deeepest sympathy at the loss of your gracious, kind, and engaging mother. We lived across the street on 121st and knew both your mother and father well, and have often thought of her boys and about Erva Lea - she was a wonderul woman, and will be missed by many. I am so sorry for your loss. I have great memories of my "Auntie Ervie" and can still hear that one-of-a-kind laugh! She was in my life from the day I was born and I will never forget her.
