Mayme Spoelstra

Mayme Spoelstra of Everett, WA passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Bethany of Silver Lake from complications of Alzheimer's Disease.
She was born at home at Clear Lake, (near Fort Benton), MT to Samuel and Alice (Venhuizen) Spoelstra on May 29, 1918. Mayme was the first of ten children.
During the Depression, the family was forced to move to find work. They first settled in Oak Harbor, WA and later moved to Everett. When she was fourteen years old, her mother died and Mayme and the older siblings helped their father raise the younger children.
Mayme graduated from Everett Christian School and Everett High School, and she took many business classes. She worked as a bank teller, librarian and for the State of Washington Department of Trade and Economic Development in Seattle.
The family was very involved in Everett First Christian Reformed Church of which she was a member. Mayme had a talent for singing, especially songs of praise to her Lord and Savior.
Although she never married, she greatly enjoyed her many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Tena Schrier, of Everett; and her brother, John (Beryl) Spoelstra, of Wenatchee, WA.
Mayme was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, William and Richard; and sisters, Jeanne Pryer, Anne DeVos, Pauline Murphy, Dorothea Schrier, and Grace Wohl.
The family gives special thanks to Bethany of Silver Lake and to Hospice for their comfort and loving care afforded our sister.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Disease Research Center at the University of Washington or to the charity of your choice.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Solie Funeral Home with Rev. James C. Wiersum of the Everett First Christian Reformed Church presiding.
