Robert D. Lundy, Sr.

Robert D. Lundy, Sr., 86, passed away peacefully February 23, 2011 with his wife and family by his side.
Bob was born November 24, 1924 in Albert Lea, MN, raised by his maternal grandparents in Omaha, NE.
December 8, 1941, two weeks after his 17th birthday, he joined the Navy. He drove the landing craft during the Sicily invasion, where his ship was damaged. It was repaired well enough to return to Philadelphia, where he met the love of his life, Pauline Tretter, who he lovingly called "mamacita." Bob and Pauline were married September 30, 1944. Just a few days later he shipped out, this time to the Pacific, and was there in Tokyo harbor when the war ended, and he returned to Pauline.
Bob and Pauline headed West, where he worked as a tooling inspector in the steel and aerospace industries, including Boeing, Wichita and Everett. In the early 1970's he went to work for the US Post Office in Ft. Collins, CO, later transferring to Wenatchee to be near family. After retiring they settled in Marysville.
Bob was honored to be a 32nd degree Mason, and proud of his time as a volunteer for the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.
Our memories and stories could fill a book about this man, larger than life. So missed will be his stories, talks and advice at the kitchen table, his amazing huge pancakes on Sunday mornings, seeing him twirl our mom across the kitchen floor. So many road trips, whether for work or adventure, never missing an historical marker, no matter how remote.
He was a romantic, independent, adventurous spirit with a keep sense of history. With Dad/Grandpa, it was never about the destination, it was always about the journey. But no matter how little we had or where we landed, as long as we were together, he was at home; his family was everything to him.
In the last few years a variety of health issues had slowed him down, but not his spirit, or his singing of songs of years past, his sense of humor, quick wit, sly grin or twinkle in his eyes.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Pauline; one daughter, Kathy (Larry) of Marysville; four sons, Craig (Kelly) of Marysville, Robert Jr. (Debra) of Spokane, WA, Wayne of College Park, MD; and Michael (Kendra) of College Station, TX; ten grandchildren, Khris, Karen, Nicole, Jonathan, Annie, Jessica, Ashley, Katie, Adrienne and Shannon; three great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Derek, Emma and a baby girl due in April.
Our family wishes to express our sincere appreciation for all the respect and care he received from the staff at the Marysville Care Center. Our special thank you, to Dr. Terry for all those years of compassion and caring. You were a friend to our dad.
