Myron Hackler Obituary

Myron D. (Mike) Hackler

Myron D. (Mike) Hackler, 82, of Camano Island peacefully passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011 after a courageous battle with colon cancer.
Mike was born April 14, 1928 to William and Anna Hackler in Everett, WA. He was raised in Everett and Marysville, graduating from Everett High School in 1946. Mike had recently attended his 65th class reunion. He graduated from Northwestern University, majoring in English.
During the Korean War he served in the US Army at Fort Belvoir, VA and 19 months overseas on Okinawa where he was a medic and in the Quarter Master Corp. After the service, Mike was employed at Kane and Harcus Printing before moving to The Everett Daily Herald where he worked as a printer for forty seven years until his retirement. He took great pride in his proofreading abilities.
He met and married the love of his life and best friend, Marilyn Wilson, July 18, 1951. They shared almost sixty years of marriage and three children. They were very active in their church, Trinity Lutheran of Everett. Mike served as Financial Secretary and sat on the church council for more than a quarter century. He sang in the church choir for over 40 years performing many a solo. They transferred to Camano Lutheran fourteen years ago when they moved from Marysville to Camano Island.
Mike was an avid fisherman. He spent seventy years exploring the rivers and lakes of Washington and recently donated his fly collection, maps and "secret" fishing holes to the Marysville Museum. He served as President of Evergreen Fly Fishing Club of Everett and was a member for forty years. He loved sharing stories from his fishing and hunting adventures.
Mike had a passion for golf. He was most recently a member of the Camoloch Men's Club. He was always trying to perfect his swing. He and Marilyn enjoyed many golf vacations, from South Carolina to Hawaii.
Music was an important part of Mike's life. He was an accomplished pianist, playing by ear. He would travel to different events with his keyboard performing for dances and social events. He truly enjoyed sharing his music.
Mike leaves his beloved wife, Marilyn, three children, Linda Schultz (Cliff) of Marysville, Terry (Sue) of Spokane, and Bob (Andrea) of Everett. He loved being Grandpa Mike to his four grandkids, Aaron and Emily Schultz and Ben and Josh Hackler.
He will be missed.
Mike always said he had only two regrets in his long life. He never made a Hole in One (Marilyn has five) and he never won the lottery. He gave both a valiant effort. His family has promised to keep trying in his honor.
Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Camano Lutheran Church, 850 Heichel Rd, Camano Island, Washington
Memorials can be made to the Seattle, Children's Hospital or to Camano Lutheran Church
Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.

Dear Aunt Marilyn, Terry, Linda and Bobby,
I am so sorry for your loss. Uncle Mike's laugh will forever be in my heart. But thankfully you will be able to hear it every time Terry laughs because he sounds just like him. My favorite memory of Uncle Mike is his smile that reached all of the ay to those terrific eyes. So sparkly, but with a little mischief in them. The music as Ju Ju mentioned will also be in my heart. Oh how he loved music.
I am so sorry for your loss.
Love,
Patty

Marilyn and family - Grace and peace from our Lord Jesus Christ. Let me express my appreciation of Mike as a most dependable churchman, a good friend, and wonderful steelhead fishing buddy!!! So many good memories of the years Betty and I enjoyed in Everett.

From my days at the Camano Senior & Community Center, I remember Mike as being a very generous and quietly talented gentleman....It's not that he quietly shared his music making talents, rather, it's more about how humble he was about it. He was a sweet man who will be missed.
Marilyn, I am so sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I loved how he kidded around with us when we were kids at church. He was and still is a wonderful man. Now he is at home in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

As a child, I remember many days and nights watching TV at Uncle Mike's and Aunt Marilyn's Marysville house. Uncle Mike would get all setup with his TV tray in front of him so he could spend the evening tying colorful flies. I have many great memories of Uncle Mike; Even though it has been years since I last saw him, I will miss him.

My Uncle Mike always had a smile on his face. He was always kind. He was always accepting. He was a wonderful man. He enjoyed music on the same level as my Dad did.
I will miss this wonderful man dearly. Rest in peace Uncle Mike. With all my love, Judy
