Ellen Ross Larson, after a long struggle with cancer, passed away peacefully in her sleep at age 79 on August 28, 2013. Ellen spent most of her life in the greater Seattle area. She was born in 1934 to parents Harry and Madeline Ross. She graduated from Highline High School followed by the University of Washington with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry where she was honored as a member of Mortarboard and Phi Beta Kappa. Ellen formed many life-long bonds of friendship as a member of the UW's Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Following graduation, Ellen pursued her interest in diabetes metabolism research under Dr. Williams at the UW Medical School. On December 26, 1956 she married her college sweetheart, Willard Larson, MD, a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy. In San Diego the couple had two children, Christopher Ross Larson and Amy Noël Larson. Her husband's military assignments took them to Maryland and Kansas before settling into civilian life in 1963 in Everett. She enjoyed family life in the View Ridge neighborhood of Everett and was co-proprietor of ELMS Antiques with her close friend and neighbor, Mary Secoy. Ellen was known for her specialization in English table silver and her skill in antique restoration. Forty years of membership in the Everett Women's Book Club and weekly patronage of the Everett Public Library contributed to many warm and enduring friendships. Ellen relocated to Seattle earlier this year to be in closer proximity to her children and grandchildren. Ellen leaves behind her loving husband, Will Larson; children, Chris Larson and Amy Larson Pilichowski; her brother, Harry Ross, Junior of Scottsdale, AZ; and grandchildren, Shauna, Grant, Ross, Marlys, Adele, Alena, and Kaeley. Also dear to her were nephews and nieces, Web, Brad, Greg, Kathy, Susan, and the memory of Garrett. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Friday, September 20, 2013, 2 p.m. at the Mukilteo Presbyterian Church with a reception following. Your thoughts will be cherished, but the family kindly requests no flowers. Those who wish to do so may make a donation in her name to Treehouse, www.treehouseforkids.org.
