Carol (Hjort) Carter, 78, of East Wenatchee, WA, passed away peacefully November 27, 2013, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Carol was born in Everett, Washington, to Ervin and Eleanor Hjort on June 23, 1935. A long-time resident of Lake Stevens, Washington, Carol graduated from Lake Stevens High School in 1953, and in 1954 she married her high school sweetheart, John Carter. While Carol worked for the Social Security Administration, she and John moved to Okanogan, then to Wenatchee where she retired in 1997. They loved to travel to the southwest, attend art shows, and spend time with family and friends. Carol was known as a wonderful hostess, cook, and baker. A voracious reader, Carol also loved her walks on The Loop Trail. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Don; sister, Joanne Hansen; and son-in-law, Bob Taylor. Carol is survived by her loving husband, John, of 59 years; daughters, Cindy (Dan) Montreuil, Debbie Taylor, and Christy Carter; grandaughters, Lacey and Lindsay; grandsons, Tyson, Aaron, and Zachary; great-grandchildren, Aubby, William, Parker, Caleb and Peyton; her sister, Kathy (Dave) Spade; many nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. The family would like to thank Carol's angels, disguised as caregivers, at Highgate Memory Care Cottage for their constant kindness and wonderful care. Thank you also to Central Washington Hospital's Hospice care services for their invaluable assistance. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the
with hope this horrible disease can be eradicated in the future. A celebration of Carol's life will be held at a later date.
