Heaven gained two more members, Donald Lawrence Culver 81, on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 joined by his wife of 61 years, Dora Mabel (Buchanan) Culver, 80, the next day Wednesday, February 2, 2011. Both passed in peace surrounded by family who loved them and will miss them dearly.
Donald Lawrence Culver was born the 15th of February, 1929 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Perry and Marie Culver. He was one of fifteen children. He joined the Army on the 22nd of January, 1946 at the age of 17. When the USAF was established in 1946, he transferred into the U.S. Air Force. Before he retired in 1974, Don had worked his way up the ranks to become a Chief Master Sergeant. He served with distinction in Korea and Vietnam and was the recipient of the Bronze Star, Distinguished Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal.
Dora Mabel Buchanan was born on the 24th of April, 1930 in DeFuniak Springs, Florida to Alfred and Mabel Buchanan. She was one of five children. The story is Dora was a roller skating waitress at a drive-in restaurant at the time they met. They were married on February 15, 1950, Don's birthday. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who devoted her life to her family.
They are survived by five children and four daughters-in-law, Don Jr. (Pat), Paul (Linda), Kathy, Boyd (Pattie) and Mark (Cristine); 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Don and Dora were preceded in death by daughter, Barbara Jean Stromberg.
The family would like to thank the staff of Providence for their awesome care and support during this very trying time. You are all the best and we truly appreciated the care given to us and to our loved ones.
Don and Dora will be laid to rest at Floral Hills. At their request there will be no services.
