On the evening of December 16, 2013, Donald "Dan" Heinz passed away at home of natural causes. Donald lived his life to the fullest and was active to his last day. He was 78 years old. Donald was born in the town on Mandan, ND, on March 2, 1935. He was the youngest of four children born to Margaret and John Heinz. When he was a young child, Donald moved with his family from North Dakota to Washington State. As a young man, he joined the Air Force where he served briefly as firefighter and a surveyor. As a young adult, Donald attended the University of Washington and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Donald worked for Boeing for over 50 years where he travelled the world and considered the 747 "his" plane. He was quite proud of his lasting achievement of making Technical Fellow and perhaps equally proud of the sometimes colorful, but always entertaining, stories that spanned both his decades and the globe. When he was 33, Donald met his future wife, Theresa Irene. For the next 36 years they shared many of each others' passions: travel, firearms, skiing, biking, and raising their three children. Donald was heartbroken to be preceded in death by Theresa in 2005. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Frank, Helen, and Antonina (Tony), as well as his infant daughter, Donna and infant sons Donald and David. Donald is survived by his children, Bernice, Daniel and Michelle; grandchildren, Christopher, Rosie, Nova and Sagan; a number of nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends. A funeral mass for Donald will be held on December 26th at 12:30 p.m. at Immaculate Conception in Arlington, WA. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Village Theatre of Everett, http://villagetheatre.org/everett. Please share your thoughts of Donald and sign the online guest register at www.hawthornefh.com. Arrangements are under the care of Hawthorne Funeral Home, Mount Vernon, WA.
The Guest Book is expired.
