Dorthy Ottaway Obituary

Dorthy Belle (Hix) Ottaway

A wonderful woman has gone to rest with her husband, Leonard Arnold Ottaway. Dorthy was born on May 22, 1916 in Granite Falls to James and Mabel Hix and passed from this world on March 21, 2011 in Arlington, WA.
She leaves behind her children, Stanley (Linda), Robert (Deanna), Vern (Cyndy), Harold (Nancy), Michael and Ruth Haskins (Stanley). She will be greatly missed by many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other family members and friends.
Once while talking about her travels, Nana was asked where favorite place had been. She said, "Robe Valley." The great lady left this world the same way she entered it, with dignity, and surrounded with love.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 26 at the Granite Falls Cemetery with a gathering to follow at the LDS (Mormon) Church on Burn Road, Granite Falls.
Special thanks from all of us to Ruth and Stan Haskins for the wonderful care they provided Dorthy.

Not sure what to say?

I can't begin to describe how much Dorthy meant to me as I was growing up. She was like a second mother - always there to encourage and instruct whenever I visited (and that was as often as possible). Her children are like brothers and sister to me. I'm sure God has a special place for her and I look forward to seeing her again.

Thank you all for your entries on this guestbook for my beloved grandmother. We are all mourning this great loss of this wonderful woman. It is just a really hard time for all of us. The only comfort we have is knowing that she is at peace now, and that she loved each and every one of us!

Grandma, there are no words to express how much you will be missed or how thankful I am to have been fortunate enough to have you as my grandmother. You will be missed greatly. And as sad as I am to see you go, I know Grandpa is there and very happy to see you and probably giving you a hard time for making him wait so long!! But, I am glad that you did. Thanks to my Aunt Ruth for taking care of you for all of those years. God Bless and may you rest in peace. Daren, Hannah, Blake, Mason, Eileen, Samuel and Chloe.

I was always happy to see Nana. I remember when I was in high school, I did a report on her and the rest of the family. It was about the history of the little log cabin that burned down those several years ago. I will always remember how greatly it affected her as well as the rest of the family. I will miss seeing her.

Aunt Dorothy was a wonderful person. She loved her family very much and enjoyed large family gatherings. She enjoyed reading and continued until a short time ago. I spent many hours at her house with the family when I was growing up. She treated me as her own and loved unconditionally. She will be greatly missed.

I always enjoyed being in such esteemed and seemingly royal company when visiting her. Nana was truly the queen of the family and sure loved her some desert. Her uncanny one liners caught me off guard more than once with a sassy wit masked by an easy going and fun-loving demeanor. She will deeply missed and I am truly grateful that I was able to know her as long as I did.

I met Dorthy through her granddaughter, JanRose. She was a lovely person, easily capable of connecting with everyone around her, no matter what their ages or backgrounds were. She was much loved, and will be much missed.

Well Mom, I really do hope theres a heaven. Nothing would be better than knowing that when you finished your journey, God was there smiling upon you and saying, "Lady, don't you look foolish". No one deserves heaven more than you. I love you and have so very much respect for you. Thank you for being a wonderful part of my life. My love to the rest of the family, Cyndy Ottaway

Thank you all for your kind words. Lynette my grand has told me stories of you as a little girl and I feel like I know you and wish I could have been a part of your little girl giggles she told me about. Her eyes always sparkled when she told me stories of how you and Ruth use to be so close. Joan I am sorry I don't know you, but it would be a pleasure to meet you, Michael, I love you bunches!

My grandmother will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She was an inspiration to me as a child and she made me strive to be the best person that I could be. One of intellect, honesty, and dignity.

If I could say one more thing to her, it would just be to thank her for being my grandmother. She has made me who I am today, and I can never thank her enough for that!

Dorthy and her family were part of my growing-up days in the beautiful Robe Valley near Granite Falls. She represents almost the last of her generation from that time. I appreciated her gentle, outgoing spirit, and also the written legacy she left her family...her record of those years at Robe. God bless all she loved and leaves behind.
