Edith Fleming Obituary

Edith Marie Fleming

Edith Marie Fleming, 84, died peacefully at home with loved ones at her side in Monroe, WA on March 11, 2011. Everyone enjoyed Edith's sparkling blue eyes, witty sense of humor, dahlia bouquets, butterhorn rolls, perfect chocolate chip cookies, and welcoming hugs! How we will miss this sweet and spunky lady!
Edith was born in Arnegard, ND to Carl and Mary Feiring. Edith attended Monroe Middle School, graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in Detroit, MI, and completed Knapp Business School in Tacoma, WA.
In 1946, Edith married Robert Dwyer of Snohomish, WA. The young couple moved to Forest Grove, OR where Edith worked while Bob earned his O.D., Doctor of Optometry. Bob and Edith opened an optometry practice in Oroville, WA where Edith served as Office Manager and Bookkeeper. They raised their two children, Lynn and Bob on Lake Osoyoos and enjoyed swimming, water skiing, ice skating, and fishing. Wednesdays, Edith could be found at the Oroville Golf Club for Ladies Day. She served as Women's President and won a Club Championship.
In l976, Edith moved to Tacoma, to work as an Optometric Assistant for Sound Health and later for Drs. Hanford, Wilson and Gustafson.
In l983, Edith married Del Fleming, a retired dairyman, of Monroe and they were happy for 23 years. Edith loved gardening, supplying family and friends with fresh vegetables, dahlias and roses. Fall to spring, Edith and Del traveled around the U.S., settling at Lake Havasu Springs Resort, where they fished for striper bass and made many friends.
Edith was active at the East County Senior Center, played pinochle, cribbage and bridge with her "extended family." She participated in the Monthly Breakfast Club, water aerobics at the YMCA, and loved reading books from the Sno-Isle Library. Edith was a talented seamstress. The recipients of her beautiful quilts appreciated the love that went into each fine stitch.
Edith's son's death in 1989 was devastating, yet, she found the courage to go on. As a 24 year lung cancer survivor, Edith made the most of every day. Edith's faith in God was strengthened by participation at the Monroe United Methodist Church.
Edith proudly doted on her 23 great-grandchildren, Keegan, Abby, Parker, Peyton, Brady, Pierce, Soren, Owen, Boden, Kai, Quinn, Connor, Tatum, Zoe, Lara, Christine, Mike, Danielle, Monica, Kurt, Corey, Ronnie, Samantha, including three sets of twins.
Edith is survived by daughter, Lynn Dwyer; daughter-in-law, Deann Dwyer; step-children, Dennis (Kate) Fleming and Margaret (Larry) Nielsen; grandchildren include, Julie (Tucker) Orvald, Kathlyn (Wade) Neal, Elizabeth (Larry) Jackson, Jami Dwyer (David Jordon), Christen (Jeremy) Roberts, Cara Dwyer and Melissa Dwyer; step-grand-children include, Terri (Harlow) Cody, Denise (Dave) Zander, Stacey Guy, Drs. Ann (Al) Creek, Ryan (Christine) Nielsen, Craig Nielsen, Rob (Amy) Fleming, and Renee (Dave) Ferna-ndez; and many nieces and nephews.
Edith was preceded in death by husband, Rollin Delmar Fleming; former husband, Robert Dwyer Sr.; son, Robert Dwyer Jr.; step-son, Roland Fleming; step-grand-sons, Richard and Bill Fleming; step-grand-daughter, Jolene Desrosier; sisters, Mathilda Richardson, Corma Latshaw and Evelyn Brown; and brother, Clarence Feiring.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 2 at the Monroe United Methodist Church, 342 S. Lewis Street, with a reception following at the East County Senior Center, 276 Sky River St. in Monroe. A private burial will be held at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery for family.
The family suggests contributions in Edith's memory may be made to the East County Senior Center in Monroe; or the American Institute for Cancer Research, l759 R St. NW, Washington, DC 20090.

Edith was fun and liked new experiences. Four instance, when we went to Hawaii together, she was up for new ideas for fun. We went to the beach and asked a beach guy who was renting a surfboards. As he was pulling a couple off for us, we told him we had no intentions of going into the water and wanted our photo taken on the surfboard on the sand. He actually couldnt believe what we were asking for and repeated our request just to make sure that it was for real. Then he grabbed a surfboard, we gave him the cameras, and he snapped a photo. I have this photo displayed in our office. She was a second mom to me. She was so good to my dad.

One of my dearest memories as a child was getting to go and visit Aunt Edith Uncle Bob Lynn and Bobby. She was a beautiful affectionate and wonderful Aunt to me and so much like our beloved Grandma Mary!

Aunt Edith came to visit our family in Detroit many years ago. She was my first pen pal. We wrote to eachother for many years. Although I only met Aunt Edith once in my life, she always impressed me as a sweet wonderful, caring lady. Over the years, I kept contact through letters with Edith and communication from my grandmother, Corma Latshaw. Eight years ago , when my family and I moved to Colorado, Edith and I talked on the phone and sent eachother emails. May God Bless her and I am honored to have known her. Love, Laura (Greba) Large-Aunt Edith's great neice; Pueblo, Colorado

Bob and Edith Dwyer's family used to be my neighbor both in the town of Oroville, Wash. and next door on Osoyoos Lake. Edith was a fantastic neighbor and person as well as a fabulous cook. Even though the many years have passed since we were neighbors, I will always remember her as a warm-hearted person who was available whenever I needed a ear. She always wore a smile and had a giving heart. Edith may be gone but never forgotten.

What a thoughtful article on your mother. Our family lived next door to Edith and Bob on Deep Bay, Lake Osoyoos. They became like a second family to me as I spent a good deal of time with my dear friend, Lynn. I will always cherish the wonderful memories of Edith. She will be fondly remembered for her genuine smile, her sense of humor and her kind and most loving heart. She will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

I remember Edith as a participiant of the monthly bridge club that she and my Mother were members of. Also as a friend of my Mother's that made our visits to her home, special. The 2 words that seem to be expressed most often in regards to Edith are beautiful and lady...she was definitely both of those but much more besides. She was the best mother-in-law I could of ever hoped to have and a fantastic grandmother to all of her grandkids and great grandkids. What a wonderful lady that will always be missed and remembered fondly.

Memories of Edith are many and varied. Fred and I spent many Saturday nights playing Bridge with Bob and Edith. The game was always excellent, the banter fun, and the food outstanding! Golf the same, except for the food. I thought Edith was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. My thoughts are with you Lynn, and your family.

I was the daughter of one mom for 36 years. When my mom passed away, my dad married Edith. She was my second mom for 22 years. She was the best. I will remember her kindness, sense of humor, and the chocolate chip cookies she always made for my husband, Larry. She was in important part of our lives; her memory will live on.

Grandma taught by example how love, how to be fare and to be generous. She was such a fun adventurous spirit. We had so much fun and laughter with her in our lives. I will miss her for the rest of my life. I think my grandma has set the bar higher for mankind.

The fight against cancer is a valiant one which Edith certainly faced with the grace for which she was much loved and admired. I shall always picture her in Summer Mode: black swimsuit sitting on beach towels under the weaping willow at Lake Osoyoos. Rest in peace Edith. Your legacy endures in your beautiful Lynn.

I am the daughter of Edith's sister Corma. I offer my condolences. Aunt Edith and I did not keep in touch but I hold her in fond memory from the time she lived with us in my childhood.
