Elsie Dubuque Obituary

Elsie Dubuque
April 18, 1922 - April 4, 2011

Born in 1922 in Turtle Lake, ND, Elsie was born to Russian immigrants, Philipp and Christina Neiffer. She moved with her family to Startup when she was three and attended Startup Elementary, where she claims to have been the fastest roller skater at recess.
In 1940 Elsie married Pete (David) Dubuque and together made an amazing team. In addition to constructing their own home, they produced three children, Lynne (Erland) Erickson, Tom Dubuque, Patty (Mark) Lervick; five grandchildren, Sean Erickson, Brooke (Rob) Robertson, Lana (Bob) Young-Lervick, Cally Lervick and Kurt Lervick; and four and one-half great-grandchildren.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Pete in 2001, after 61 years of loving, laughing, dancing, and community service.
Elsie was an avid golfer, being able to claim a hole in one. She golfed with many women's groups in the area and was still golfing well into her 88th year of age.
Besides building and operating the Candy Cane Drive-In in Monroe, co-owning and operating Stretch n Sew, Elsie was payroll officer for Snohomish School District, worked for Dr. Brust, and also Providence Hospital… and all of this while raising three kids with love and devotion.
Elsie excelled at being a grandma, telling stories, sewing clothing, stuffed animals, doll clothes and always being available to baby sit. She never missed a birthday, recital, or other special occasion. She was always there for not so special occasions also.
Elsie passed peacefully on April 4, 2011 with her family by her side.
Besides her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her significant other, Art Poier. He has been a devoted and loving companion for the last 10 years. She is also survived by her brother Milton (Pat) Neiffer. Her brother Charlie Neiffer and her sister Mathilda Neiffer preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, at the First Presbyterian Church in Snohomish, WA.

Our condolences to the family of Elsie Dubuque. Elsie was a dear friend of my mother, Delores Schwartz LeMaster. Both were descendants of Germans from Russia, who had first settled in North Dakota, and then moved to Startup, Washington in the early 1920s. Life long friends, Elsie and Art Poier would bring dinner and visit my mother and father during the the last years of my mother's life, which was much enjoyed. Elsie was a very caring and loving person and always fun to be around. We will miss her.

I am going to miss Elsie. She was a great gal. Only knew her the last few years through golf. She was a pleasure.
