Ernest Epperson Obituary

Ernest G. "Ernie" Epperson

Ernie Epperson went quietly to meet his Lord, February 8, 2011. Ernie was born August 16, 1917 in Ketchikan, AK, to Ernest and Letty (Baker) Epperson. After the death of his mother, his father moved them to Wenatchee, WA, where he met and married Althea Pearson in 1927. Althea became Ernie's "Mom," adopted in love. The family moved to Warm Beach, and Ernie graduated from Stanwood High School in 1936.
During his teens, Ernie gave his life to Jesus Christ, his Savior. He graduated from Simpson Bible College and was ordained September 24, 1940. Ernie and his mom held summer camps, bringing needy children from the cities. From 1944-1950 they ran the first Christian boarding school in the NW. Ernie served as director of Youth for Christ in Stanwood and also traveled overseas with YFC. Continuing his call to evangelism, Ernie traveled to several states under the United Brethren in Christ church. In 1956 he met the love of his life, Lois Bavin, in Montpelier, OH. They were married in August, 1957 and returned to Warm Beach together. In 1961-1967, Ernie was called to pastor Lakewood Community Church, now Smokey Point Community Church. He worked for Stanwood School District for many years, but Ernie never considered himself retired from ministry.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Steven; and two sisters-in-law.
He leaves his wife, Lois, of 53 years; son, David (Rebecca), and grandchildren, Ryan and Kimberly Epperson; family missionaries in Malawi, Africa; daughter-in-law, Janell (Dan) Epperson-Fullen, and grandchildren, Michael and Megan Epperson; and sister-in-law, Marjorie Bavin, all of Stanwood; and many cousins and friends.
"Thank-you," from the family to Dr. Clay and the staff at Warm Beach for their excellent care and loving kindness.
A memorial will be held at 2 p.m., March 13, at Smokey Point Community Church, 17721 Smokey Point Blvd.
Memorials may be made to Allen Creek Community Church, 7314 - 44th Ave. NE, Marysville, WA 98270, marked "E-3 Malawi Ministries".

March 5, 2011

I have a special memory of Ernie. 35 years ago while filling in for our regular pastor at Smokey Point Community Church who was on vacation Ernie offered an altar call, as he always did. That day I went from death to life, darkness to light - I received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I went forward and Ernie gently prayed with me and for me. He counseled me to begin reading and studying my Bible...and I haven't stopped yet. I am so grateful for his kind, faithful, Christ-honoring ways. This tired earth will miss him and his likes - but I rejoice he's with his precious savior.

As a neighbor at Warm Beach, Ernie was more like an uncle to us kids. Love you all always, Daralyn Hollenbeck

Ernie played a large role in the lives of my family and myself - neighbor, friend and pastor. His love for the Lord was always so visible in all that he said and did - for which I am very grateful.

Ernie was my school bus driver for many years. He had love for everyone he met and such a gentle spirit. I will be keeping the whole family in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

We loved and respected Ernie for many years. He was a quiet and selfless man who loved Jesus, his family and others. He made an eternal difference in many lives. Only eternity will reveal the impact of one life dedicated to God as his was. Stephen & Darlene Paterson
