Genie Cichoski Eugenia (Genie) Cichoski, 80, a long time Everett resident, passed away Sunday February 2, 2014 after a brief battle with lung cancer. She was the fifth of seven children born to Thomas and Ruth Callaghan, on June 19, 1933 in Portland, OR. Genie moved to Everett as a young girl and established lifelong friendships in the Rucker Hill neighborhood, and cherished being a part of the Rucker Hill Roosters club. She attended Immaculate Conception School, then Everett High School graduating in 1951. Genie helped with several class reunions over the years and enjoyed sharing memories with her many friends. Genie met her husband, Francis (Chick) Cichoski, while he was stationed at Paine Field. They married in 1961 and celebrated 52 years of marriage. Genie worked as a clerk at 25th Street Market in Everett for 30 years, retiring in 1997. She enjoyed working with the public and establishing many friendships over the years. In 2006 Genie began volunteering at the Everett Assistance League working as a donation sorter. She was blessed with many endearing friendships and daily hugs that came with it! Genie truly loved donating her time to help others. Genie enjoyed her book club, having lunch with friends, and most of all – spending time with her family. She loved her children and grandchildren immensely and took pride in their achievements. She adored all of her "little people" over the years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Ruth Callaghan; husband, Chick; daughter, Cindy; granddaughter, Laura; and sister, Peggy. She is survived by her sons, Ronald (Jenny) Cichoski, Steve (Helen) Smeland; daughters, Deena (Ron) Serafini, Mary (Rich) Groshong, Cathy (Bart) Minogue; grandchildren, Nicole, Brian, Lisa (John), Jessica (Travis), Jeff, Kelly, Mark, Brandon, Emily, and Sara; great-grandchildren, Jerron, Justin, Zoey, John, Jade, Julia, and Evan; her brothers, Thomas, Glenn (Millie), Elmer (Barbara), Bill (Mary), Mike (Portia); and many nieces and nephews. Genie was exceptionally grateful for the loving care and visits from family and friends during her final weeks living at her daughter Deena's home and for the generous support from her friends at the Assistance League and First Covenant Church of Everett. A memorial service will be held at First Covenant Church, 4502 Rucker Ave, Everett, WA, on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 2 p.m. Donations may be made in her honor to the Assistance League of Everett - Operation School Bell, 5107 Evergreen Way, Everett, WA 98203 or the First Covenant Church of Everett.
