Dr. Everett J. Dickerman OD, 91, of Everett, Washington, passed away on March 27, 2013. He was born to Archie and Agnes Dickerman on November 5, 1921 in Butte, Montana.
His family moved from Butte to Eugene, Oregon when he was nine years old. He attended the University of Oregon for two years and then entered Navy cadet training after which he joined the U.S.M.C. He was deployed to the South Pacific during World War II and stayed in active reserves at Sand Point Naval Air Station after the war. He then enrolled in the College of Optometry at Pacific University, Forest Grove, OR when he met Clara Vanderzanden. He was recalled to active duty in the Korean Conflict, but returned to Pacific after the war and earned a Doctors degree in Optometry. Everett married Clara Vanderzanden on July 1, 1951 in Forest Grove, Oregon. He remained in the U.S.M.C. active reserves, where he retired after 26 years.He was the owner of Binyon Optomitrists in Everett until he retired at the age of 70. Family was always first for Everett. He was a member of the Elks Clubs and enjoyed gardening and wine making. He also loved to travel.
Everett is survived by his wife of 61 years, Clara Dickerman; son, David
(Sandy); daughters, Dale Johnson (Eric) and Shirley Jo Dickerman; four grandchildren, Ben Dickerman, Carl Johnson, Andy Dickerman, and Sabrina Chandler; and two great-grandchildren, Kaylee Dickerman and Logan Dodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
A Memorial will be held at 11 a.m., April 4, 2013 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help with a reception to follow at Hansen Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the OLPH St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank.
