Everyl Beavon Obituary

Everyl Beavon

Everyl was born in Kisii, Kenya on May 23, 1928 and died in Gresham, Oregon March 1, 2011.
One of four sons born to Eric and Myrna Beavon and grew up in Vancouver, BC where he watched the Lions Gate Bridge being built. He also spent part of his childhood in Moncton, New Brunswick. Everyl left home for boarding school in Ontario, Canada and later in Michigan when he was 15. he lived briefly in Pittsburgh, PA and went to college in MI and MD. He was married in his junior year of college to Evelyn Wismer. Later he graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1952 just a few months after his first son, Fred, was born. Don was born four years later and in another 16 months their Dtr Trudy was born.
With his wife he began a successful business, Maryland Professional Management. As his youngest kids were finishing high school, Everyl accepted a position as Administrator of a Medical Clinic in Seattle, WA. With the move to the NW he felt like he was coming home. He was also the Administrator of Medical Clinics in Snohomish, WA and Sequim, WA before going to work as a Real Estate Agent.
In his spare time Everyl enjoyed traveling with Evelyn, golfing, spending time in the mountains and visiting with his relatives and their extended families. In the late 70's he began his artistic career, first in stained glass and than as a talented wood carver.
Influenced by his sister-in-law Daphne Odjig, a First Nations artist, Everyl studied and made many carvings of Coast Salish artwork. He was married to Evelyn for 56 years, he missed her dearly when she died in 2006. His strong bond with friends, fellow carvers and relatives kept him going.
He will be greatly missed by his children, Fred (and wife, Sopar), Don (and wife, Sheila) and Trudy (and husband, Nils); along with his grandchildren, Cindy, Brianne, Samantha, Tara, Anna, Justin, Erin and Erica; and great-grandchildren, Maddison and Jaidyn; as well as the Philbrick, Beavon, and Campbell families; his friends; and fellow carvers.

Everyl comes often to my thoughts, our love of carving being our constant link; it is then I am reminded of what a kind and generous man he was who had a smile and a tone of voice that was so endearing.

Everyl was my cousin's husband and a very special person. He was one of the very few who was liked immediately by those who met him.
He and I shared the love of carving and at Christmas I asked if I could commission a carving from him. He replied that he did not do commissions, but gave carvings to friends and relatives ... and since I was both, he would send one to me. Well, he sent me two carvings which I understand he went through a lot of pain to get ready for me. I received the carvings on a Sunday and on the Tuesday morning I phoned him to thank him for his beautiful and much treasured work. His voice as always was cheery, but he confided "I am going downhill fast". He died later that day.
