Ivy Malmstead Obituary

Ivy Malmstead
"Now also when I am old and grey-headed, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come."
- Psalms 71:18

Ivy E. Malmstead, age 93, passed sweetly into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 18, 2011 at her home at Olympic Place in Arlington, WA.
Ivy was born July 29, 1917 in Leadville, CO to Fred and Estelle Andrews. Ivy married the love of her life, Walter Malmstead, and they lived a full life together until Walt's passing in October, 1993. Together, they enjoyed and raised their children, Jim, Janet and Steve, at their home in Lake Stevens, WA.
Ivy is survived by her brothers, Fred Andrews and Melvin (Elaine) Andrews; her son, Steven L. (Cheryl) Malmstead; daughter, Janet (Larry) Kanikeberg; and her daughter-in-law, Gale Malmstead; six grandchildren, Joni (Ric) Lindstrand, Cindy Stensrud, Julie Lorig, Jamie (Matt) Wright, Stacy Malmstead and Kent (Sarah) Malmstead; as well as six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.
She was a member of the Lake Stevens Assembly of God for over 70 years and was a favorite Sunday school teacher there. She loved reading and studying God's Word.
Ivy's impact on the lives of her family and friends was tremendous, but the testimony of her life and faith in Jesus was larger then life and louder than words. Generations of her family are blessed to have loved her and received the blessing of her love and prayers over their lives. She will be dearly missed.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank her precious friends and those at Olympic Place who loved and helped her through her final days.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Lake Stevens Assembly of God. All who knew and loved Ivy are encouraged to come and share in this special celebration of her life.

Growing up next door to Malmsteads was a true blessing. They were such an inspiration and had such an impact on our family’s life. If there was ever a book written on how to live life as a Christian there would most certainly be a picture of Walt and Ivy in it, two of the most wonderful people we have ever known.

Though I did not know this precious lady, I do know her wonderful grandaughter Joni. Miss Ivy's love and beauty has been clearly poured into her family. She has left behind a heritage in her love for Jesus that will indeed last for generations. Thank you Miss Ivy.

My family is so sorry to hear of your loss. Ivy was a big part of our lives. She was good friends with grandma and grandpa, and someone the rest of us adored. Ivy was a gently, sweet woman who loved the Lord and her family with all her heart. She touched many lives as a Sunday School Teacher, in the church (Lake Stevens Assembly of God) and life in general. Know that while the world has suffered a loss, Heaven has gained an angel. All of our love to each of you as you mourn the loss of dear Ivy.
