I was sadden to hear of Jimmy's passing today. You expect him to be @ Doc & Ann's forever. The place will never be the same without him. My daughter, Kim moyer called me and the first thing I said was I wonder if he was met @ the pearly gates by my parents Erling and Flora Halbakken? I'm sure there was a crowd & celebration for all that has gone before him that loved him so. The Halbakkens were frequent patrons many years ago,as well as myself. They had so many fun times. I have lots of party pictures from Doc & Ann's and my parents home that I will get to the family. Jimmy I used to love coming in & you fixing me hot sausages, mustard & popcorn. I will truly miss you. God bless the whole family.

I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He was a bright spot during a tough time for me and my sister when our dad died. Jim, my dad Travis and our uncle Rex grew up together and forged a bond that was everlasting. Jim made sure dad was honored in keeping with his wishes- he his ashes were scattered where they all spent time hunting so many years ago. Jim joined my dad's cousins on a long hike into some remote part of Snohomish county that involved a Cadillac getting high-centered on gravel logging road and three 75 year-olds taking turns carrying a canvas pack from the 40's which contained dad's ashes. Jim said he was honored to do this for us, and for dad. He sent pictures of the entire adventure which showed that uncommon combination of reverence, respect and crazy- funloving humor Jim was known for. (He also shot some of the ashes off the back deck of the tavern after hand-loading them into a shotgun shell! This was the ultimate tribute for my dad!) We showed our appreciation to Jim by returning an elk head(trophy)dad had in his house that came from one of many hunting trips together. It had originally hung at Docs and we returned it hang again in its rightful place. Thanks for being good to us Jimmy. I know there must be one hell of a reunion going on in the afterlife!

Jim - you lived a good, long, strong and happy life. You're wisdom and humor will forever be missed. My first visits to Doc's came by meeting Jimmy at the back door and trading fish for beer. Then I celebrated my 21st...he was none to happy with me. Oh so many years ago. Some of the best pool games and meat shoots were shot in his company. Thanks for the memories. Our hearts are with you and your family at this time of great loss.

My parents bought a cabin on Lake Roesiger in the 40's and always used to stop and see Doc and Ann on the way to the lake. I met them at that time. I originally met Jim when he took over the Tavern from his parents. Years later, I was Captain Kidd in '92 with the Seafair Pirates, and were entertaining at Kuhnle's Tavern in Marysville, and the Sauerkraut band with Jim happened to be there at the same time. Jim remembered me from the '50's and invited the Pirates out to the Pilchuck Tavern. We spent the rest of the day there entertaining. Jim was a great guy, a gentleman, a jokester and all around fun guy. My condolences to his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.

First visited "Doc's" in 1979. Met Jim & Audrey out there in 1982 or '83 & was asked to play in the Sauerkraut Band. Played "Taps" with Jim at every Memorial Day celebration since 1985 at Machias Cemetary. In all those years, Jim has been the best friend ever, whether behind the bar at Doc's or sitting next to me, sharing a beer, the kindest man you'd ever met. All of the Regattas, Polar Bear Jumps, dances at Doc's will never be the same. Wishing Audrey & all--all the best. Gone but never forgotten.

My heart went heavy when I learned of Jim's passing. He was a man of great talent, character, charisma, and a friend to all who walked through the doors of Docs Tavern. Although I wasn't what you'd call a regular there, for the past 20 some years, it has been one of my favorite places to play pool, for league or tournaments. That, I suppose, could be any watering hole, but Jim's presence made it special. I almost instinctively expected to see him brushing the pool table, or serving up some chili he had concocted. But even when he wasn't treating, just to see him wearing his apron, and heading toward the table, before he even spoke, one could almost hear him say "you're not just a customer, you're a friend and a part of the Doc's Tavern Family...Welcome".
I didn't know on that day, that I was saying Goodbye, but I'm thankful I took those few minutes to say Hello to a friend.
For you, Audrey, my heart goes out to you and your family.

Jim will be missed by so many people. He was such a great fun person and I have so many fun memories growing up and playing together in Machias in the field between our houses. Jim got a lot of his funny antics from his dad Doc and Mom Ann. They were great fun people also his sister Marilyn who he will be reunited with. Heaven will be a happy place with the reunion of this family. Bill I know you will miss your brother Jim so much. Live with all the good memories you have of him and the good job he did of taking care of "Doc's" the funnest place in Machias. I love you Jim!!! RIP
