Jeanette Bell Jameson (Webb) (Alexander)
Jeanette Jameson of Country Meadows, Bridgeville, PA, formerly of Marysville, WA, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Country Meadows Nursing Center at the age of 93.
She is survived by her sons, Patrick Barnhard Alexander of Bremerton, WA and Danrick Webb Alexander and wife Anna of McMurray, PA; grandsons, James Danrick Alexander of Morgantown, WV and Scott Patrick Alexander currently in Johannesburg, South Africa; brothers, Howard Webb, Jr. of Cottonwood, AZ and Lee A. Webb of Sparta, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by two husbands, Fredrick Jackson Alexander m1943-d1972 and Arnold "Jamie" Jameson m1976-d1991; a sister, Marian Petersilge; and brother, John Webb, Sr.
She was born the first child of Howard and Ethel Webb in Cleveland, OH, on August 2, 1917. Growing up she answered to the nickname "Jigs." She graduated from Lakewood High School and Baldwin Wallace College majoring in English. She met Sgt. Fred Alexander on a cross county bus trip. They were married during WWII in 1943, at the Buckley Air Field Chapel in Denver, CO where she worked for the D&RG RR. They moved to Laredo, TX and New Haven, CT, until the war ended and then settled in Mukilteo, WA. They enjoyed beachcombing, shell collecting, camping, sewing, boat-building and raising a family in Everett, WA. It was always fun to set the crab pots and build a driftwood fire on the beach to fix a seafood dinner. Fred, who worked on Puget Sound tug boats, could repair most anything. Together they taught the importance of education and self-reliance.
She returned to graduate school at the University of Washington for a master's degree in Librarianship and to qualify as the Children's Librarian of the Snohomish-Island County Regional Library System. Telling stories during children's time with handmade and dressed puppets was typical of her interests. Later as Branch Library Manager she worked to enhance facilities and constituent access to all library resources.
She joined the Mountaineers' Club and hiked in the Cascades and Queen Charlotte Islands. In 1976 she married Jamie Jameson, a long-term acquaintance and fellow library worker. One of her special wedding gifts was a Coo Coo clock from the Black Forest that she kept running the rest of her life. They enjoyed the mountains, ocean and other Pacific NW sites. She was an accomplished seamstress who made most of her own clothes and many crafts for friends and the Stillaguamish Senior Center Bazaar. They had many friends and regularly hosted the "lunch bunch" gatherings in their home in Marysville, WA, overlooking Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. Jamie, who used to race airplanes and loved to golf and run model trains, died suddenly in 1991. Jeanette continued to live there until moving to Pittsburgh in 2004 to be closer to family and grandkids. She developed many friends, volunteered and participated in regular activities at Country Meadows - South Hills Assisted Living facility near Bridgeville, PA.
A service for family and friends will be held at Country Meadows Building 2 chapel May 5, 2011 at 1:30 p.m.
Donations may be designated for the benefit of the County Meadows Co-Worker Foundation, 830 Cherry Dr., Hershey, PA 17033 in Jeanette's name.
