Jerome Hogan Obituary

Jerome E. "Jerry" Hogan

Jerome E. "Jerry" Hogan died on Saturday, May 21 with his family at his side. He was born in Wilkinsburg, PA in 1944. The son of Helen (Grimes) and James Hogan, Jerry grew up in Forest Hills and attended Edgewood High School. He earned both a B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. During his time at Pitt, he served as student body president from 1965-66 and received many honors and awards including a NASA fellowship.
Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Char (Charlotte Winton), in 1967 and they had two children, John and Meredith.
During the first years of his career as a sales representative with Alcoa, Jerry earned his M.B.A. in Finance from Oklahoma City University in 1974.
His 18 years with Alcoa included positions in Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Indiana. He ended his career based in Allentown, PA as a regional manager with Crown Simplimatic, Inc.
Jerry recently retired to Mukilteo, WA where he enjoyed living near the water, being a car racing fan and collecting model trains. He died after battling colorectal cancer for ten years.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James (Jim) Hogan.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 43 years; two children, John (Leigh) Hogan and Meredith (Mark) Birkett; sister-in-law, Mary; nieces and their families; and all who knew him for his considerate nature, integrity, quiet humor, intellect and gentle manner.
The family will be holding a private celebration of his life in lieu of a service.
The family requests that in place of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (designated for colorectal cancer) or the charity of your choice.

When we were children at play in the neighborhood, Butch was always the peacemaker, the gentle soul & happy just to be among friends. His life was a journey well-lived.

Jerry was a true gentleman and scholar. He was an associate of mine for 15 years at Simplimatic and then Crown Simplimatic. I remember that he always had a good word to say no matter what the situation at hand had to offer. He will be missed. May God rest your soul Jerry. Farewell my friend.
