Rev. J.B. Brandt

On August 21, 2012 the Reverend John Birger Brandt "JB", 76, died at his home in Ilwaco, WA and entered eternal life in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born November 15, 1935 to John Birger Brandt, Sr. and Jessie Thorsen Brandt.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his sister, Jessie (George) Simpson of Astoria, Oregon; nieces and nephews; a cousin, Kermit Brandt in Chicago, IL; and relatives in Sweden and Norway.
A private graveside service has been held at the Brandt family plot at Greenwood Cemetery in Astoria.
His ministry began as Assistant Lutheran pastor at Magnolia Lutheran Church Church, Seattle, WA from 1963-1966. He was called to pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Aberdeen, WA from 1966-1982, and pastor at Zion Lutheran Church, Everett, WA from 1983-2006 from where he retired and moved to Ilwaco. He attended Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chinook, WA. He was faithful to his calling as a Lutheran minister preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and administering the sacraments of Holy Communion and Baptism. A favorite Bible verse was Psalm 118:24 "This is the day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it." He was a Chaplain in both the Aberdeen and Everett Police Departments.
He was known for his energy, knowledge of many things, sense of humor, kindness, and faith. He loved music and was an accomplished organist and pianist. He loved to get together with friends and talk over a cup of coffee. He used the telephone to call friends near and far to stay connected. He loved to read and had an extensive library. He was a friend to many and is greatly missed.
A Celebration of LIfe Memorial Service will be held Sunday, September 23, 2012 at 4 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 4634 Alger Ave., Everett, WA with reception to follow. (425-252-1429)
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory/honor of Pastor Brandt may be given to Zion Lutheran Church of Everett for the work of mission redevelopment.
Another Celebration of Life Memorial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 767 Hwy 101, Chinook, WA with reception to follow in the Chinook School Gym.
