Leonard Frank Axtman, born March 27, 1927 in Orrin, ND, passed away on November 1, 2013 at home in Monroe, WA. Leonard farmed in North Dakota for eight years, and retired from Scott Paper Company after 22 years as mechanics supervisor. A longtime Monroe resident, Leonard co-owned and operated Monroe Golf Course for 19 years, and was a member of Monroe Cascade Aerie #2327. Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Sylvia; sons, Randolph Axtman, Duane Axtman, James Axtman (Ginger), Christopher Axtman (Geraldine), and John Axtman (Tamara); sisters, Leona Schmidt and Helen Hammers; his brothers, Raymond Axtman and John Axtman; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Michael Axtman, Regina Schneider, Bertha Hearst, and Albert Axtman; daughters, Antonette Axtman and Leonita Miller; two infant sons;, and granddaughter Kimberley Axtman. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 8, from 1p.m.-7p.m., with a Rosary commencing at 7p.m. at Purdy & Kerr with Dawson Funeral Home, 409 W. Main St., Monroe. A Funeral Mass celebrating Leonard's life will be held on Saturday, November 9 at 9a.m. at St. Mary of the Valley Catholic Church, 601 W. Columbia St., Monroe. Memorials in his name may be made to St. Mary of The Valley Catholic Church.
